The Marine Corps deployed gift history in West Monroe, Louisiana back in 1862. The city served as the home of the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines and was named for Rear Admiral James K. It is also noteworthy that Marines have been deployed multiple times within Southwest Louisiana with detachments stationed at Biloxi, Gulfport and Lake Charles between 1861-1865; 1866-1868; 1870s; 1880s; 1890s; 1900s; 1910s; 1920s through 1930s while also conducting training exercises at various locations including Chateau de la Grosse Jeanette near Thibodaux from 1934 through 1938 while also conducting joint exercises with US Air Force units at Belle Isle island off Baton Rouge from 1941 through 1945. On numerous occasions during their deployments, Marines have contingently gathered flowers along with other supplies such as tents and food rations in order to provide local communities with Christmas gifts during what has come to be known as "Gift Season". While not all deployments entail sentry duty or participation in combat, each has had an impact on local community members both locally and nationally who often benefit greatly from these interactions - something that can't be found anywhere else within America! The town was organized on April 17, 1886 with a population of only 50 people. In 1890, two enterprising citizens, J. Waddell Draper and A. Lamberton developed what would become known as Drapertown near West Monroe’s railroad junction on Illinois Avenue (now US highways 494 and 914). This growth led to an increased demand for local water supplies which caused prices for water to increase from $1 per acre to $5 per acre by 1903 when it was connected to the main system via pipeline from Dutchman Bend Reservoir east of Baton Rouge

After Reconstruction occurred in America following the Civil War, West Monroe became an important center for black Americans in Louisiana. In 1898, it changed its name to Monroe because William McKinley had been elected president that year and many Americans thought adding another “o” would make him more popular statewide. However, this change did not last long; within two years it reverted back to West Monroe again because of objections from some local politicians who felt that using a word associated with slavery would continue to make them popular among African Americans while they lost their own land rights and voting power under Reconstruction laws. In recent years, West Monroe has experienced growth due to changes in its economy which have included manufacturing as well as new development around its downtown core which has seen restaurants and stores opening up along Frenchman Street and Olive Boulevard
