The Coast Guard gift history in West Monroe, Louisiana dates back to the early days of the Department. In 1916, the Coast Guard was created as a result of an act by the United States Congress that authorized appropriations for such a service. The first gifts given to the Coast Guard were uniforms and insignia. The first major donation made to the Coast Guard came from Count Zinzendorf von Rauch, who donated $5,000 to improve communications between coastal communities and New Orleans. West Monroe, Louisiana is a town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. The population was 10,824 at the 2010 census. West Monroe is located on the Gulf of Mexico about halfway between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. It is bordered to the north by Hammond and to the east by Plaquemine County. The town was founded in 1820 as a post office called Monroeville. It became a municipality in 1868 and an incorporated city in 1912. West Monroe has two banks, four churches, two schools, three airports (one serving general aviation and one serving commercial airlines), two golf courses, five baseball stadiums (three of which are used for football), twelve ponds/ponds/courses/races (eight of them open to public use), three tennis courts, and several small businesses including plumbing stores, grocers, mechanics shops and boatbuilders. The only other major industry is agriculture with flour mills being the main producer. The economy of West Monroe depends largely on its agricultural sector which produces cornmeal, cottonseed oil and soybeans; however recently there have been some efforts to diversify the economy with services such as accounting or real estate becoming more popular among residents since job opportunities are not always easy to find outside of agriculture

West Monroe is a small town in Webster Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,836 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous incorporated community in Webster Parish and part of the New Orleans metropolitan area. The community was founded by white settlers in 1821 as a post office on the banks of the Mississippi River. In 1827, it became a village when it amalgamated with nearby Lafourche to form West Monroe Village. The name "Monroe" was first given to the community by General John Monnett who had served in Mexico during the Mexican-American War. In 1930, West MonroeVillage became an unincorporated community and remains so today. During World War II, its residents participated in both military service and local production that helped support American war efforts throughout Southeast Asia and Europe. Afterward, many businesses were established in West Monroe Village including one which still operates today - Lafourche Biscuit Company - responsible for manufacturing more than 2 million biscuits per year statewide. Today's economy largely depends on transport services such as air travel and tourism; agriculture plays a significant role too with some grocery stores and several restaurants existing since before incorporation into Webster Parish; but heavy industry has not replaced traditional banking or retail businesses since WWII like those which once thrived around Lafourche Boulevard downtown which now functions as an open-air mall complete with large supermarketsanchored inside glass buildings facing Interstate 10 (the only access). There are also multiple arts organizations operating within walking distance of popular venues likea library/community center/theatre district or events at various parks located throughout this vibrant central business district known simply as "The Square".
