The first time coffee was brewed in West Monroe was in 1814. At that time, the town was known as “Coffeefort” due to its prolific production of this type of coffee. Coffee became popularized in America after it was introduced by Dutch traders in 1624. Soon, different regions were drinking coffee throughout the United States. In 1847, a group of businessmen from Lafayette founded the Lafayette Coffee Company and started selling coffee direct to consumers. The company grew rapidly and by 1860 had reached 2,000 customers across Louisiana and Mississippi! By 1870, Lafayette Coffee had become one of the largest companies in America! In 1923, the company merged with Roemer & Van Cleave Coffee Corporation to form Roemer-Van Cleave Coffee Company (RVC). RVC continued marketing and exportingressofcoffee until it discontinued operations in 1998! Today there are several small roasters that still produce quality coffees from old recipes at their locations throughout Louisiana!

West Monroe is a town in Rapides Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Bogalusa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to explore and settle near what would become West Monroe was Nicolas-Jacques Marquette in 1799. He named his discovery after John Montresor, 3rd Viscount Craven who had traded with the area in the late 16th century. The town site was chosen by General James K. Polk as the location for his new military installation known as Camp Jackson on December 9, 1854 following a competition open to officers of all branches of the U.S. Army seeking sites forforts within three miles (5 km) of each other across Rapides Parish and Adams County - then part of Louisiana Territory under Spanish control. On November 15, 1800, Joseph Noyes set up a trading post near present day West Monroe on land owned by Pierre Laprade on Bayou Lafourche which he donated to Acadia Parish because Lac des Cygnes Lake lay between it and Mobile Bayou opposite Pointe Coupee Island; Noyes named it "New Iberia". In 1806 Nicholas-Jacques Marquette traveled downriver from St. Louis via Mobile Bayou and found an opening into this bayou just south of wherepresent day West Monroe is located; he called this creek "Lac des Cygnes" or "Bayou Lafourche". On July 10, 1827 Isaac Brock established a ferryboat landing on present day Lake Pontchartrain east of present day White Sulphur Springs Boulevard southeast of today's Southeastern Blvd., west of Fort Clinton along what is now US Military Road 4116 South/Old US Military Road 4116 North; he named it "Fort Brock Landing". His landing became known as "Brock's Ferry Landing". In 1840 Samuel Morse founded a toll bridge over Lac des Cygnes River at Brock's Ferry Landing which later became known as Morse Bridge without naming its founder but still bearing his name because that is where wires carrying electrical current were first laid during America's early days as a country
