The town was originally settled by French colonists in the early 1800s, and they started roasting their own beans to sell back home. Today, Thibodaux is a busy commercial center with a large population of French-speaking immigrants. The first European settlers in what is now Thibodaux were Franciscans who arrived in 1699. They founded a small community on the banks of the Vermilion River, which became known as Thibodaux after they moved there. Catholicism was very strong in those days, so many Native Americans helped convert these new arrivals to Christianity. By 1801, both English and Spanish traders had established themselves along the riverbanks, and began trading goods including coffee beans and other commodities downstream to Bossier City on Lake St Claude. By 1830, commerce along La Salle Street had become such an important artery within Thibodaux that two brick warehouses have been preserved near downtown since that time – one dating back to 1827 (the original structure behind today’s State Line Market), while another date from1881 when Thibodaux incorporation as a city saw rapid growth thanks to its location at crossroads of several major transportation routes including railroads running through it (the age of cars!). As part of Desoto’s “New Orleans Plan” aimed at revitalizing once struggling southern Louisiana cities post-Katrina – including Thibodaux – Blvd des Ecoles became known as “Coffee Boulevard” due largelyto its importance as an intersection point linking Old US 1 with I-10/US 141/LA 562 corridor connecting Baton Rouge metropolitan area eastward towards Mobile County seat Bayou Teche… [all]this contributed importantly towardsestablishing high quality café culture throughout much southwestern Louisiana well into recent decades !!!

The first Europeans to visit what is now Thibodaux were Algonquians who named it "Tibi" meaning "a place where cows are milked." The area was explored by Captain John Bate in 1795 during his expedition from Mobile to Port Royal Bayou La Batre and he named it for Pierre-Antoine Thibodeau, a Frenchmen who had been captured by British forces at Pensacola Bayou Lachine about that time. In 1804, General James K Felton established Fort Lafitte on an island in bayou Lafitte known as Toni or Tonye due to its high limestone cliffs which made gunpowder production difficult. In 1809, Lafayette founded the United States Military Academy at West Point near modern day Thibodaux (then called Acadiana). This college would become one of America's most prestigious institutions with students coming from all over America to attend its ranks including many top military leaders including George Washington and Robert E Lee. In 1814 Captain John Bate again visited Thibodaux while exploring new land along the Mississippi River delta which he christened Bossier City after Madame de St Louis who resided there with her son Louis de Bourbon then Governor Claiborne Jackson satellite office during this period On July 20th, 1840 when Bossier City was incorporated as a town under law #910 within Jefferson Parish it became home to 1,811 people being 2/3 white men also free mulatto women slaves numbering 515 enslaved Africans American Indians butchered since their purchase date The Battle of Bridgeport took place here between Confederate Brigadier General Braxton Bragg’s brigade commanded by Colston Chilton against Union Colonel Augustus Herndon’s brigade commanded by Major General James Longstreet resulting in 4 killed 6 wounded 9 total Confederate killed or mortally wounded 9 Union killed or mortally wounding none reported As per historian Dionne Cook “the result decisively decided the outcome of that important battle; brigadier general Braxton Bragg emerged victorious north of downtown as did colonel Augustus Herndon south – though more than one thousand Confederates were lost either dead or captured

Thibodaux, Louisiana is a small town located in Livingston Parish, Louisiana. The population was 1,846 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Baton Rouge–Metairie–Lafayette metropolitan area. Thibodaux was founded in 1819 by a group of Frenchmen who were seeking to find new land to settle after leaving their homeland of Quebec. The original village ordinance mentioned that "No person except a white man and his wife" could live there. Thibodaux became an important trading post on the Gulf Coast during the 1800s and early 1800s due to its location at the mouth of the Bayou Teche. During World War II, Thibodaux was home to military units stationed in nearby New Orleans and Villerealle. In 1951, Mayor Hebert consolidated Lafourche Parish into Livingston Parish as part of budget cuts within then-New Orleans City Hall. Thibodaux continued to be an important commercial center until Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005. As many as 300 businesses were destroyed or damaged in Katrina's landfall alone; most of which reopened following federal intervention under President George W Bush's Emergency Management Plan.[1] Many residents returned after government assistance expired or were relocated elsewhere during the recovery phase; however, some remain displaced today due to redevelopment efforts underway near Thibodaux Citadel Airport and other areas across Livingston Parish caused by oil exploration activity decades ago near what is now Citrusville Parkway east of town.[2][3][4] Today, much of downtown Thibodaux remains vacant although more than half a million dollars have been invested in restoring/renovating nearly all surviving buildings since Katrina damage began; many restaurants have reopened including J'Aide (formerly known as Cafe du Monde),[5] Joe's Barbecue,[6] and Brewdog (now known as Live Leaguer).[7][8] A major tourist attraction for those interested in Jindal country is Thalia Shrine—a local shrine dedicated to Our Lady of Charity which features several statues representing various aspects of Catholic life including social work and nursing care—opened on October 5th 2007 adjacent to downtown Tibo with assistance from Lafayette businessman Don Romanoff among others.[9][10][11]

In 1815, the area that is now Thibodaux was part of the Spanish colony of Louisiana. The French were long interested in Louisiana, and in 1785 they founded the city of New Orleans on the Mississippi River. In 1803, after France lost its war with Spain, Napoleon Bonaparte ceded all of Louisiana to the United States as a result of his American Revolutionary War victory. From then until 1954, Thibodaux was an unincorporated community within Rapides Parish.
