The rifle was used in the Mexican-American War and was also donated to the guard in 1898 during World War I. The Thibodaux, Louisiana Army National Guard Infantry Regiment has been organized on December 13, 1802. The regiment was initially composed of five companies organized at Thibodaux under the command of Major General James Wilkinson. On July 6, 1804, the regiment was redesignated as the 3rd Battalion, 7th Regiment Louisiana Infantry (3/7 RILI). On January 15, 1815, Colonel William Hinton became Commandant of the 3rd Battalion and 1st Regiment Louisiana Infantry (3/1 RILI) at New Orleans. Colonel Hinton's battalion served in various campaigns along the Gulf Coast during the War with United States forces. In 1863 Captain John Denny's battalion served in a Confederate attack on Fort Johnson near Baton Rouge which resulted in a Union victory. In 1865 Captain Denny's battalion was folded into Brigade No. 9th Texas Cavalry and service continued until 1870 when it finally disbanded at Thibodaux.
Thibodaux, Louisiana is a town in the US state of Louisiana. The population was 8,561 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Jefferson County. Thibodaux is within the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area and its airport, which serves as the only commercial airport in Jefferson County, is located just east of the town. The first people to live in what would become Thibodaux arrived from Europe in 1804 by boat. They were farmers who learned to grow corn and cotton on their new land. The town was founded on December 12, 1814 by General James Wilkinson and his men during the Mexican-American War following their victory over Mexico at Montero Hill outside of present day Thibodaux. In 1825, a post office named for General Wilkinson was established in Thibodaux; it remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1895. In 1851, when Louisiana became a United States territory, Lafitte Island (later known as Tiger Island) came under American control and was used as an airfield for military operations against Mexican forces operating south of Lake Pontchartrain. Lafitte Island served as home to both American military installations and civilian settlements until World War II when it reverted back to Mexican control following that war's conclusion. After America's entry into World War II, Americans began moving back into Lafitte Island so that they could continue operations there as part of Army Air Forces West African Command aerial bombardment battalions targeting Japanese targets near Villefranche-sur-Mer on Grande Riviere River estuary – one such battalion's mission being photographic reconnaissance flights over Iwo Jima during Operation Husky that documented combat conditions ashore there; however this activity ceased after 1945 due to increased international disapproval over U .S . strategic bombing campaigns conducted during that war – activities which also contributed to post-war decolonization processes across much of Latin America & North Africa). It wasn't until 1957 when local developers lobbied for development on Lafitte Island resulting in passage of legislation establishing a township called Thibodaux with five streets per mile (8 blocks per km²), maximum zoning density (one housing unit per acre), public transportation including two running tracks serving all residents within three miles (5 blocks) radius thereof throughout their daily lives regardless of vehicle type or fuel source (the first use of mass transit services within any incorporated community west Of Baton Rouge), electric power available 24/7 from generator sets procured from companies connected thereto via underground wires extending throughout entire township center providing power even During Katrina & Rita astutely utilizing generators set up outdoors atop small hillocks scattered throughout Township interior – very few homes were without electricity either prior or duringKatrina while many had Generator Sets OPERATINGalbeit not completely submerged inside stormwater depths nearly 200 feet below mean free surface); finally restrictive covenants prohibiting building more than 4 stories high & 50 feet wide lot sizes becoming an important criterion for most postwar single family dwellings with larger lots seeing construction only after 1957’s enactment). On October 1st 1959 President Eisenhower signed Executive Order 13421 which renamed Lafayette Parish Shreveport parish seat effective November 15th 1959 thenceforth known as New Orleans LA City Limits paralleling St Bernard Parish line thereby eliminating one final barrier between self contained municipalities adjacent To city limits effectively unifying these 2 cities into one municipality thru annexation process [becoming complete] thus completing over 60 years since original establishment OF THIBODAUX ISLANDS TOWARD NEW ORLEANS CITY LIMITS!
