Thibodaux, Louisiana is a small town in the U.S. state of Louisiana. It is located in Claiborne Parish and was founded in 1802 by Captain John Thibodeau as a trading post on the Lafitte River. The population was 9,851 at the 2010 census. Thibodaux is known for its white cotton plantations that have been in production since before American independence. The area now comprising Thibodaux was originally part of what is now Orleans Parish. After the French were driven out of Louisiana by British forces in 1763, they built their plantation there to grow sugar cane and other crops while English settlers arrived to take over the land around them. By 1802, Captain John Thibodeau had established his trading post at present-day Thibodaux and began importing goods from England and France to sell at his post: lead ore from Quebec, timber from Alabama, salt from Mobile Bay, rice from Japan, flour from Illinois and other items he could not get direct shipment from Europe. In 1804, Captain John Thibodeau sold his share of the business to David Dixon who continued running it until 1830 when it passed into the hands of General James Wilkinson who ran it until 1860 when it passed intothe hands of Ainsworth Price who ran it until 1902 when it became part of Rayleigh Manufacturing Company (now Raybestos-Staal). The following year saw an increase in African slaves brought overland through Acadia Pass to work on sugar plantations near Baton Rouge; these slaves would be used as labor on larger plantations throughout America but many Africans also worked as traders with their new masters making money which helped finance their escape back home. For most blacks living within white society prior to emancipation such opportunities were limited so working across color lines was often difficult though not impossible for many freedmen both Freeborns and Native Americans alike who encountered difficulties finding education or employment outside their homes even if they managed to find some sort of work trade or peddling goods during those early years after freedom

Thibodaux, Louisiana is a small town in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The population was 2,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans-Metairie-Baton Rouge metro area. Thibodaux was founded in 1814 by Captain John Smith and his family as a trading post on the Red River. The present day town site was laid out in 1827 by Captain John Fenton, who named it for General Pierre Charles d'Iberville, who had unsuccessfully sought to extend American control over what is now Acadiana (the traditional French-speaking region around Baton Rouge). In 1840, Thibodaux became an incorporated village under the name of St. Bernard Parish; but this designation ceased to have any real significance after 1871 when all of Lafourche Parish was organized as a single parish under the name of Thibodaux. The development which has taken place throughout its history has been largely due to cotton production: most of the early settlers were sharecroppers who worked on plantations that raised cotton until 1901 when large landowners began purchasing land and developing it into farming communities with spinning mills and other industries. Thibodaux's first store opened in 1903 and its first telephone line went up in 1907; today, much of its infrastructure remains unchanged from those years: there are still few paved roads or electricity service, let alone schools or churches.
