When the United States Army first deployed to Slidell in 1891, it consisted of only a company of infantry. In 1917, the 1st and 5th Infantry Regiments were activated, and the 3rd Infantry Regiment was also added. The purpose of these units was not just military but civic duty as well. From 1941-1945, the 1st Armored Division was stationed here; during this time, Slidell became known as “The Armistice Capital of Louisiana†for its role in supporting the war effort. In 1949, the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) program began here at USMCRB. Today, Slidell offers students a variety of opportunities to learn about military service and leadership through ROTC programs. Additionally, since 1957, Slidell has been home to Air National Guard Base Louisiana; this provides capability forRESEARCH ABROAD missions within our region while larger deployments are taking place elsewhere in Louisiana or Texas. As we move into the 21st century and face new challenges such as global warming and climate change, it is important that we remember our history and ensure that future generations have access to all that our Armed Forces can offer them – including service members from both World Wars!

Slidell, Louisiana is a small town located in the eastern part of the state of Louisiana. It is bordered by Harrison and Winnsboro counties to the north, Lafayette County to the east, and Chalmette Parish to the south. The population was 9,521 at the 2010 census. The town is named after General James Hogg Slidell who fought in the American Revolution and then served as Secretary of State under George Washington. In 1819, Slidell was founded on an island in Lake Pontchartrain which had been bought from a Native American tribe by General Andrew Jackson. The community grew rapidly during Reconstruction following the Civil War because it became a major transportation and trade center for goods moving between Texas and New Orleans. Slideroll developed into one of the most prosperous small towns in Louisiana during this time period. The oil industry played a significant role in Slideroll's development too; until World War I, Slidell was home to many oil companies including Standard Oil Company of New Jersey (SPC), Gulf Oil Company (GOC), Texaco Inc., Mobil Oil Corporation (MO) and Alpha Natural Gas Co.. During World War II, Slidell experienced some significant bombings when Japanese forces bombed Pearl Harbor resulting in over 100% damage to both homes and businesses. However, overall Slideroll fared relatively well during that time period with only 1-2 percent of its total population killed or injured withinthe city limits as a result of war-related events such as bombing raids or combat casualties; compared to rates for other U.S.-occupied areas throughout Normandy or Southern France where up to 50% of all residents were killed or injured due to combat operations alone). Slidell has since seen increasing growth both within its borders as well as outside them with new residential developments being built along Interstate 10 across from downtown since 2005 making it easier for people living near big cities like New Orleans or Baton Rouge to commute into town for shoppingã€diningã€entertainment etc..
