The United States Army deployed gift history to Ruston, Louisiana in 1945. The Ruston Army Base was built in the early 1920s and served as a training ground for World War II veterans. The base was closed in the 1940s and used for storage. It reopened as an army base in 1945 and served as a primary training ground for the military until it was closed again in 1978. In 1944, the United States Congress passed the National Defense Act which provided for the deployment of units of soldiers to various parts of the world. The Ruston Army Base became one of these locations and began hosting unit exercises and deployments within Louisiana. In 1948, both Fort Polk (near Baton Rouge) and Fort Belvoir (near New Orleans) were activated to serve as branch camps on theRuston Army Base. These camps housed several thousand troops with their families while they underwent basic training at Fort Polk before being sent overseas. In 1954, Fort Worth County emerged as a potential site for an artillery installation on the rustonArmyBase after plans were drawn up to relocate two existing artillery batteries from Alexandria, Virginia to this location. This project failed due to budget cuts however, fort Worth County instead voted to establish a small airport on land adjacent to thebase that would be used by helicopters operated by Civil Air Patrol flights during wartime exercises called “Varsity Visions” or “War Games”. After World War II ended, there was an increased demand for military personnel in Louisiana due to increasing tensions between America and Communist China over Taiwan Strait arguments escalated into open warfare known as The Korean War (1950-1953). As a result of this conflict, many enlisted men from surrounding states found themselves stationed in Louisiana including members ofthe 11th Infantry Regiment who arrived at FtBelvoir on October 15th 1951 under command of Colonel John Witherspoon III followingmonths of preparation preceding its deployment outside South Korea with orders onlyto remain there until relieved by other units or returned home pending resolutionofthis dispute By May 1954 all11th Infantry Regiment Soldiers had departedfor their new assignmentand never returnedhome The 11th Infantry Regiment redeployed back home via airlift on November 1st 1955 aftera ninemonth deployment covering most OfSouth Korea To replacemen lost In action or died from disease contractedduring their previous tour On December 6th 1957 General MacArthur announced his decision thatthe Korean War had been won And thus resultedinthe termination Of hostilities between America And Communism

Ruston, Louisiana is a small town in the eastern wing of Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. The population was 4,489 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Bogalusa Metropolitan Statistical Area. Ruston is located on the banks of the Calcasieu River and it had a total area of 24 square miles (71 square kilometers). The early history of Ruston dates back to 1814 when General Andrew Jackson's army burned down an Indian village in what is now western Ruston. In 1820, Captain James Walthall built a bridge over the Calcasieu River and named it for him after his victory over Spanish forces at Palo Alto Creek. In 1827, John Fournier platted what became ruston and named it after his father-in-law, Robert Ruston. A year later, Senator Alexander Stephens bought some land adjoining Fournier's land and also named it ruston after him. In 1830, Governor Claiborne Pell established a post office in ruston under the name Plantersville because he thought that since there were many planter families in that area they should be called "rustons". The first store in ruston opened its doors on December 12, 1830. The store was operated by Captains John Kenedy and Nicholas Wilkinson who both came from Kentucky to help open up this new outpost in central Louisiana. All goods bought at this store were transported by wagon train to New Orleans where customers could buy them or take them home with them. By 1840, there were ten stores operating out of ruston with about 1,500 customers per day!

In December 1914, the 1st Infantry Brigade was deployed in response to World War I. The brigade was attached to the 2nd Infantry Division and fought at Ypres in Belgium. In 1917, the brigade was moved to France and fought at Belleau Wood, Arras, and Omaha Beach. The brigade withdrew from Europe in May 1919. In 1924, the brigade was redesignated as the 5th Infantry Brigade. It served in India during World War II and returned to Britain in 1945. It was disbanded on demobilization in 1946. Ruston is a small town in southwestern Louisiana, United States. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Shreveport-Bossier City metropolitan area. Ruston's history dates back to 1836 when it was founded by General Hernando de Soto as a trading post on the Atchafalaya River. The first white settler in Ruston was John Cavanaugh, who arrived in 1837 and built the first log cabin in what is now downtown Ruston. In 1840, he married Eleanor Boudreau and they moved into a family home on Elm Street which still stands today. By 1850, rustlers were terrorizing the area and Governor Claiborne Jackson ordered all Fort Smith inhabitants to leave for their own safety. Cavanaugh and his wife moved to Baton Rouge but kept their home in Ruston until 1856 when they sold it to J.D. Griggs for $4,000 cash with an option to purchase it again at any time within five years (he never exercised that option). In 1862, Confederate General Braxton Bragg attacked Fort Smith with 1,500 cavalry troopers under Lieutenant Colonel Amos Cloudesley Johnston; only 2% of those troopers returned fire due to shortages of ammunition; however this event helped solidifyrustoner identification as being part of Confederate territory On November 3rd 1865 local resident James Fenton registered his claim on land grant issued by President Andrew Johnson Fenton had been denied access to land elsewhere because he was not white enough On December 9th 1865 General Robert E Lee granted him acreage adjoining present day downtown Ruston for $2 per acre based on soil type This donation effectively created what would become Ruston Township (it wasn't until 1870 that a Courthouse Square Cemetery was established) The original location of Fenton's property remains unknown but it may have been near current day I-10 & US Highway 49/State Highway 318 . rustoner settlers began purchasing lots throughout the late 1800s primarily around railroad tracks which made transport easier and added value To properties . Many early settlers were self-employed artisans or farmers who either did not own or could not afford horses or other transportation
