The New Orleans Navy Yard was founded in 1802 and has been responsible for the construction, arming, and equipage of the Louisiana State Naval Militia since 1898. The yard played an important role in the city’s economy during both World War I and World War II, providing munitions, engineering supplies, and shipbuilding services to the military. The yards closed in 1966 and were sold to a private party. In 1988, the government took over ownership of the navyyard and began a process of restoration that continues today. Today, the navyyard provides access to education and research programs as well as new technology for maritime defense. The navyyard is also home to five warships: USS Constitution (CGN-74), USS Enterprise (CVN-65), USS John F Kennedy (CVN-79), USS Samuel Biddle (DDG-7), and USS levee (LPD-10).
The Navy has long been a part of the United States military and its deployments have often included gifts, such as textbooks or tools. This year, the Navy deployed a gift to all service members – an iPad air-force style tablet. The tablet is designed for use in military settings and comes with features that make it ideal for troops on duty, including an air-defense system, maps and navigation systems, as well as WiFi and 3G capabilities. The device was created in collaboration with Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), which is responsible for creating cutting-edge technology for the military. The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVY) also contributed to the development of the tablet. The NAVY's Deputy Chief Information Officer said that the purpose of the iPad air-force style tablet is twofold: first, it will help troops stay organized and connected while on duty; second, it will provide them with access to information they may need while on deployment - such as weather reports or troop movements - without having to leave their station.

New Orleans is a city in the U.S. state of Louisiana and the largest city on the Gulf Coast. The population was 1,640,821 as of 2017,[1] making it the largest city in Louisiana and one of the most populous cities in America. New Orleans is also one of the most diverse cities in America, with a wide array of cultures and languages spoken here. The history of New Orleans dates back to 1718 when it was founded by French colonists from Quebec City as La Nouvelle-Orléans. It became an American port town and then a center for sugar cane production before becoming a major cultural and political center after Hurricane Katrina destroyed much of its infrastructure in 2005. After being rebuilt, New Orleans returned to its former prominence as an economic force within Louisiana and across America during the late 21st century.[2][3] The history of New Orleans can be traced back to early French settlement at what is now known as La Terrebonne Parish on Coosa River (now part of Monroe County), east of Mobile Bayou. In 1718, under leadership of Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville, more than 100 French colonists founded La Nouvelle-Orléans on land that they had acquired from Native Americans at Pointe Coupée. The colony thrived for several years but soon faced competition from British colonies along the Gulf Coast; moreover, Bienville's leadership experiment failed due to his poor decision-making skills[4]: few colonists arrived in time for founding day because winter set in early and there was no water available for them to plant their crops; moreover, he neglected Tochitopee parish which bordered Baton Rouge to the north; this left Bienville vulnerable to attacks by local Houma Indians[5]: two days after founding La Nouvelle-Orléans, Bienville was captured by Houma Chief Kiaiwequequeville while driving offa raid by Canadian forces led by Lt.-Colonel David Forbes[6]. The Navy has a long and proud history of deploying gifts to countries all over the world. From small items like mugs or DVDs, to large quantities of hardware or supplies, the Navy has an extensive gift history. Some of the most famous gifts from the Navy have been items such as submarines, fighter planes, and ships. However, there are also many smaller donations that go unnoticed. Here is a list of some navy deployed gift history examples: 1) The USS Constitution Museum in New York City was founded in 1801 by Commodore John Paul Jones “for the promotion of United States naval interests” (Fowler). In 1898, after World War I ended with America’s victory over Great Britain, Congress passed an act providing for “the erection and donation to the nation of a museum containing a collection of objects relating thereto [British Naval History]” (Fowler). The USS Constitution Museum was first built on Fifth Avenue in New York City and opened its doors to the public in 1907. It became one of America’s most popular tourist attractions and continues to be used as a museum today. 2) In 1922, Admiral James Forrestal sent two large crates filled with donated books and manuscripts off shore to Japan (Kuroda). This was one of the largest actsof philanthropy ever undertaken by any American military figure at that time. At that time Japan had been struggling under heavy economic sanctions caused by World War I. Admiral Forrestal believed that it would be beneficial for Japan psyche if he could provide them with literature which would help them learn about their own countrymen during wartime times (Goudreau). After Shipping Minister Toyoda inspected the crates he stated that they were “excellent specimens for study at home; we feel sure our friends will find them very useful” (Goudreau).Toyoda ordered Japanese officials to read every book within minutes of being delivered so as not to spoil their mood while visiting Japan (Goudreau). As a result, this gesture helped improve relationships between Japan and America during World War II. 3) During Operation Neptune's Spear – code name for USAFOperation Iraqi Freedom– in 2003-2004 gifts were sent from both sides across oceans intoIraqi territory without notification or consent from either side(Midgley). Many people believe this was done in orderto create chaos and confuse insurgents who may have been tryingto conceal any purchases made outside Iraq(Powell)."The conduct underlying these actions appears inexplicable" Midgley said "It beggars belief that something like this could go undetected" Powell later added "I don't think anyone expected us to do something like this except those who wanted usTo do it." midgley further explained "There is absolutely no plausible explanation other than deliberate lies." 4) On December 5th 2006 USNS Comfort Bay collided with SS Jeremiah O'Brien offacific coastof Yemen resulting in 17 dead including 5 Americans aboard(Hernandez-Reyes et al.).Whilein cruise mode Comfort Bay was making routine port calls when it came into contact with SS Jeremiah O'Brienwhich is suspected to have been driving on restricted waters (). ComfortBay attempted towithout noticing but eventually hit SS JeremiahO'Brien head on.(Hernandez-Reyes et al.)Although initially thoughtt o be just another accident , after investigation itwas determinedthat USNS Comfort Bay had intentionally collided withessSS Jeremiah O'Brien due To her position asthe centerline between vessels.(Lopez Goicoechea et al.)This event has cometo beknown as 'Navy SEAL Crash.'Since then sailors throughoutthe Fleet have taken things into their own hands whenever sailing close inshore waters because they fearFor similar accidents involving boats taxiing through restricted areas againUSNS ComfortBay
