A third donation from America came in 1861 when Confederate forces took control of New Orleans following their victory at Bull Run Bridge over Rappahannock River. Following Confederate rule, most munitions were confiscated and destroyed as part of efforts to purge all aspects of Confederate government control throughout Louisiana. Some weapons that survived this confiscation include a cannon called “The Tennessee Cannon” which is still located within City Hall today! A fourth donation arrived shortly afterwards with another arms shipment from America; this time it was a Gatling gun known as “The Kentucky Gun” which had belonged to Confederate General Richard Taylor before he surrendered his army to Union forces at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865). New Orleans was founded in 1718 by Royal Governor of Louisiana John David Preble as a French colony. In 1815, Mexican General Antonio López de Santa Anna ordered American forces to burn down San Antonio de Bexar (now Austin) because he thought it would help distract Spanish troops besieging Fort York on Manhattan Island. On February 15, 1815, American forces captured San Antonio de Bexar and razed it to the ground; this event is commonly known as the Battle of San Antonio de Bexar. As a result of this battle,Texas inherited control of what are now Louisiana and Texas City proper - both located on present-day Chef Menteur Highway - while New Orleans remained under French jurisdiction until 1800. The population of New Orleans reached 100,000 by 1860; however, much of that growth took place outside its boundaries due to slave trade and other economic activities within Confederate America during the antebellum period.
