The coast guard gift history in New Iberia, Louisiana began with the establishment of the Coast Guard in 1915. The Coast Guard was created to protect and maintain the coastlines of Louisiana and Alabama. In 1933, the Coast Guard detachment at New Iberia was transferred to Mobile, Alabama. From 1934-1941, the Mobile detachment had its own store. During World War II, Mobile Detachment 1 participated in numerous coastal defense missions including guarding against Japanese submarines operating off of Florida’s Gulf Coast. Following World War II, both detachments were combined into a single unit and renamed as the Mobile Security Group (MOG). MOG functioned as an enforcement arm of NGT until its disbandment in 1978. Since then, there have been no special gifts bestowed upon the Coast Guard detachment at New Iberia for anniversary or special occasions. However, during may 2003 event commemorating 50 years since NGT was founded, a new gift was presented to members of MOG by Mayor Ray Nagin. The gift was a plaque honoring NGT personnel who have made significant contributions to municipal life in New Iberia over that time period including those who have served on MOG since 1978. This plaque is also inscribed with the phrase “In Memory of Those Who Have Served” Since 1958 when gifts were first given out for anniversary or special occasions withinNGT itself, Gifts For A Cause has become an important component ofNGT culture and tradition! Each year we celebrate various aspects ofNGT through Gifts For A Cause which helps support our mission while providing local citizens with unique items throughout different categories such as clothing/accessories; jewelry; cooking supplies; bicycles; tools & machinery; books/movies/tv shows; postcards etc…. New Iberia is a small town located in the parish of Nicholls in Louisiana. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area. New Iberia is one of the oldest settlements in present-day Louisiana and has been inhabited by Native Americans for at least 10,000 years. The 16th century French explorer and soldier René-Robert Cavelier named it Nieuville after his family's home near Paris. In 1804, General Andrew Jackson sent a detachment to capture Fort Natchitoches from Spanish forces under Santa Anna. Lieutenant Colonel James Silliman and about sixty soldiers were ordered to march through New Iberia on their way to Fort Pickens on Lake Pontchartrain. However, they found no such fort and continued their journey only to return empty-handed two days later because of a rainstorm that delayed them by four days. In 1823, Captain John Smith founded Baton Rouge as an American trading post on the site where present day Baton Rouge stands today. He named it "New Iberia" for his home country Italy which he had visited just prior to founding Baton Rouge. In 1830, New Iberia became the capital of United States Louisiana when Daniel Webster was installed as its first governor following Louisiana's admission into the Union as a Ulysses S Grant territory on November 3, 1803. New Orleans had functioned as the state capital since 1795 but due to budgetary concerns, Webster decided that Baton Rouge should serve as America's new national capital rather than maintain an open seat at both places simultaneously until further notice; this decision effectively made New Orleans' preeminence complete within Louisiana Statehood (in 1837). The architecture associated with early 19th century American Southwestern settlement reflects Portuguese/Spanish colonial influences; examples include Manuel Iglesias' San Miguel de Allende Mission Chapel built in 1800-01 and Antonio López de Balboa's sugar refinery complex built between 1830 and 1840 which remains extant albeit reduced in size from its original form today. As sugarcane production began declining throughout most of North America during the era of slavery (see Slavery in America# Sugar industry), slave ranches grew up around these plantations; one result was increased competition for labor among planters who could not afford free men working directly for them (see also: Agricultural society# Southern plantation system). In response to this increased competition, many southern planters developed strategies designed specifically or adaptively aimed at maintaining control over slaves while exploiting their labor power while paying them relatively low wages (eager Negroes eagerly took advantage of opportunities offered by white commercialism). These strategies included using physical punishment - often called whipping - against slaves who did not meet certain standards set by their masters; use of work gangs - composed primarily or exclusively of women - engaged in manual labor tasks essential for agricultural production; keeping slaves divided amongst themselves so that they were unable to unite against white abolitionists operating out of northern cities during this period; advertisement campaigns stressing racial differences among slaves so that they would remain loyal subjects under white masters insteadof joining abolitionist groups seeking freedom from bondage

New Iberia, Louisiana is a small town located in the parish of Jefferson in southeastern Louisiana. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. New Iberia was founded by the Houma people in 1805 and became a part of the Ville du Lousiana in 1814. In 1861, it became one of the counties of Louisiana created from portions of Evangeline Parish. The community was originally called "Nova Iberia" because its founders were from Nova Scotia. New Iberia's history can be traced back to 1805 when Houma people moved into what is now New Iberia from their original home on the lower Mississippi River delta. By 1810, they had organized themselves into villages and named their settlement Nova Iberia after their new home province, Nova Scotia. The first white settlers arrived at Nova Iberia in 1811 and by 1815 all but two of Houma's original village members had left for Texas with some Ofiram (now Bossier City) settlers joining them later that year. The remaining villagers remained behind to begin farming what would become New Iberia. They erected a wooden stockade around their homes to protect them from Indian attack and began trading with nearby post towns for goods such as corn and cotton. By 1830, most of the present-day town had been established including several churches and schools as well as a few businesses including stores, blacksmiths, shoemakers, carpenters and Joinerymen shops among others In 1861, when Confederate forces surrendered at Appomattox Court House following the American Civil War, much of eastern Louisiana passed under Union control including parts of New Orleans Parish including New IBERIA which continued to serve as an agricultural center until after World War II when it lost its status as an independent municipality During Reconstruction following Reconstruction Period there were numerous changes taking place throughout southeastern Louisiana due to federal troops occupying most or all localities during that time period known as "the military occupation." These changes included attempts by both white Democrats and African Americans to gain political power within local government structures while preserving traditional African American social customs such as voting rights along with educational opportunities for blacks however these efforts often met resistance from powerful white Democratic politicians who desired complete segregation within local municipalities while retaining overall control over local affairs . In addition many businesses closed during this time period due primarily to low commodity prices brought about by wartime production shortages . Many residents relocated out west during this time period seeking opportunity for better paying jobs outside of southeastern Louisiana In 1964 Hurricane Kitty caused extensive damage across much southernLouisiana killing more than 70% of those living in Mobile Bayou communities along with widespread flooding which destroyed countless homes , businesses , churches etc . Additionally more than $25 million dollars worth of property was damaged or destroyed making it one of America's worst natural disasters ever [1] A number redevelopment projects have since been initiated within downtown areas near LSU campus providing assistance for housing developments such as Higher ground Village apartments overlooking LSU Campus;[2] Phase One: restoration & redevelopment project includes creation/construction/maintenance/upkeep& landscapingof three blocks southside between US 231st Street & Coliseum Drive;Phase Two: development will include mixed-use retail/office space +/- public plaza& event lawn courtyard;Phase Three: demolition project includes removal/reparationof four blockwalls bordering Coliseum Drive
