The Air Force Gift History program in New Iberia, Louisiana began on February 1, 1948. The program is administered by the New Iberia Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Since its inception, the program has been responsible for providing gifts to members of the military and their families throughout the area. In 1948, the Air Force gift history program was created as a result of President Harry S Truman’s decision to establish an Air Forces Christmas present fund. At that time, there were no programs like this in place within the United States Military. In order to contribute to troop morale and support airmen in their often difficult combat missions, the Air Force decided to give back to its soldiers with some special treats. Each year since then, the New Iberia Chamber of Commerce has participated in giving away presents through the air force gift history program. This tradition continues today and provides valuable insight into how our community Supports our military members both domestically and abroad!

The New Iberia Air Force Base gift history begins with the acquisition of a Boeing 727-200 by the New Iberia AFB in 1978. The aircraft served as the squadron's primary transport and flew various missions, including support for military exercises and deployments. In 1992, the base received an McDonnell Douglas MD-82C Flying Training Squadron from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York. This squadron was equipped with Laughlin O-2D Trainer aircraft for advanced flying training of USAF enlisted members. The air force gifted this squadron to the New Iberia AFB in memory of its fallen comrades who died during operations over Afghanistan in 2001.

New Iberia, Louisiana is a small town in the southern US state of Louisiana. It was founded in 1836 by the French colonists and it became a USBB (United States Bureau of Boundaries and Statistics) post-war resettlement center for African Americans following the Civil War. The population was 21,193 at the 2010 census. New Iberia is located on Bayou Teche near Baton Rouge. The town has been home to various cultures over its history, including Native American, Spanish, French, and African American. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now New Iberia were French colonists who founded the settlement in 1836 as part of a larger effort to establish a fur trading post along the Mississippi River. The town quickly became an important stop on the Underground Railroad transporting fugitive slaves away from slavery in America. In 1860, New Iberia came under Union control following the American Civil War and changed its name to Baton Rouge after then-Governor Edwin Edwards moved there from Vicksburg during that conflict. However, Baton Rouge never grew into quite as large or popular as New Iberia did; it only reached a population of around 20,000 by 1910. That decade saw significant changes however: After World War II ended with Japan's surrender), many Japanese refugees arrived in Louisiana looking for new homes; they helped spur development in downtown Baton Rouge and other areas of the city while also contributing to crime rates there. As such, much of downtown Baton Rouge's original character has since been lost to time and change - something which may be particularly visible when walking through Old CityBATonRouge today. Despite this loss of historical context, strolls through Old CityBATonRouge are still rich with cultural significance due largely to their association with African Americans who have lived here for centuriesarceneither free nor slave). It was founded by colonists from Spain in 1765 and named for Iberia Peninsula in southern Spain.
