The United States Air Force (USAF) has been providing air support to civil authorities in New Iberia, Louisiana since World War II. In 1978, the USAF activated its first unit in Louisiana, The 1st Security Forces Squadron (1 SOS). This squadron was tasked with providing a 24/7 security presence for the new Port of New Iberia. In 1980, the USAF activated its second unit in New Iberia- The 2d Security Forces Squadron (2 SOS). This squadron was tasked with providing uniformed security for major government events and meetings taking place in the city. In 1998, the USAF activated its third unit- The 3d Security Forces Squadron (3 SOS). This squadron was tasked with providing a rotational force of Soldiers to provide security for military installations and other sensitive sites across Louisiana. Today, there are over 50 active duty USAF units stationed in Louisiana; all of which contribute their unique abilities to protect our citizens and infrastructure. The Air Force also has a special branch called the Military Airlift Command (MACC). MACC is responsible for transporting goods and personnel between battlefields and other parts of America. This service is so important that it even has its own acronym – AMC. AMC was founded in 1947 as an auxiliary unit ofthe US Army’s Flying Training Command. It soon became evident that air transport could be used to carry supplies, troops, or equipment to various battlefield locations far from bases on land. In 1951, AMC was transferred tothe newly created USAF as an independent command under Headquarters USAF. AMC’s mission today remains similar to that which itfirst assumed: providinglift capability for operational requirements across all areasof operations worldwide within limits set by Congressand Headquarters USAF; operatingmaintaining airstrips throughout America; providinglift capabilities at high-priorityAirmen's regionalcommand points; supporting joint exercises flown by both United StatesArmy Aviation Forces and United States Marine CorpsAviation Units; conducting liaison activities withe External Missions Agencies (EMA)in orderto maintain international cooperation with appropriate foreign governmentsand organizations

New Iberia, located in the parish of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is the largest city in Louisiana and one of its oldest settlements. The city was founded in 1803 by General James K. Polk as a trading post on the Mississippi River. In 1846 it became the capital of Louisiana under president James K. Polk and was named for Spanish general Isidro de la Vega y Beauregard. New Iberia has since undergone many changes, including a population growth rate above 10% during the 1990s and 2000s that has made it one of the fastest-growing cities in America. The history of New Iberia goes back to 1803 when General James K. Polk built his fort at present-day New Iberia on what is now known as riverfront land near where confluence with the Mississippi forms modern Baton Rouge County. At first, new settlers were primarily French Catholics who farmed land and raised cattle there until 1840 when American traders began arriving with goods such as cottonseed oil and new tobacco varieties. By 1846, American troops had taken over control of Baton Rouge from Confederate forces following their victory at Appomattox Court House. The new capital was established at old Fort Orleans on rue d’Alma which overlooked what is now downtown New Iberia (then called Pointe Coupee). On December 12th that year, President James K Polk appointed Joseph Pemberton to be administrator for Louisiana due to increased political activity in the state after the Mexican–American War (1846-48). In 1850 John Hammond opened what is now called Hammond’s Store on current day Broadway between Center Street and Lafitte Avenue; this store served as a base for business operations for much of southern Louisiana before Hurricane Katrina destroyed most businesses within two blocks of landfall on August 29th 2005 .[1] The loss of these businesses could not have been more devastating because they represented much insurance money flowing into Baton Rouge during those days before Katrina caused significant damage to infrastructure across entire parishes across southeasternLouisiana On November 9th 1895 an act was passed by Congress designating Pointe Coupee Island offshore from mainland Louisiana – thus providing freshwater resources necessary for growing rice – making it possible for citizens living on or near Pointe Coupee Island to extend their residency ashore without having to leave their homes or communities situated adjacent to Pointe Coupee Lake appellate jurisdiction dating back over 350 years ago This change not only impacted local residents but also created cross- jurisdictional issues which continue even today with disputes over rights to water resources etc . In 1898 temporary trustees were set up pursuant To Act No . 814 entitled “An act concerning defenses against insurrectionists within this State†giving jurisdiction over civil suits brought against any person found guilty thereof by a jury martial meeting held at Memphisville l4 April 1898 Prior thereto delegates from various parishes assembled at Lafayette July 1st 1899 objectsing thereto convened an executive committee consisting Messrs Wm Matson (President), Jno Hoggarty (Secretary), Geo Aiken (Treasurer) & myself said committee reported favorably aforesaid martial meeting & recommended acceptance accordingly ..... On September 2nd 1902 a law was enacted declaring all areas lying east Of Red River Within This Parish outside Of limits prescribed therein As public lands And vesting In Said Parish Government Power To Acquire All Lands Which May Be Necessary For That Purpose ....[2] [3] This law changed ownership status from certain landowners within boundaries prescribed by Acts Nos 627 & 711 passed prior thereto to newly formed La Salle Parish government once again vested with power “To acquire all lands which may be necessary for that purpose†There have been many major events throughout our City's history: * The establishment of Baton Rouge County in 1840 * The opening of Hammond's Store in 1890 * Rice production beginning around 1902 popularizing island residency among citizens living inland

New Iberia was founded by French colonists in 1763 as a tiny community on the banks of the Mississippi River. By 1836, it had become a thriving slave-holding and cotton-growing center. A series of devastating Native American raids and wars led to its fall in 1837, but New Iberia quickly rebuilt, becoming an important commercial center and port town during the 1840s and 1850s. During the American Civil War, New Iberia sided with the Union side, but eventually joined Confederate States of America. In 1865, following the war's end, New Iberia reverted to France as part of Reconstruction Era Louisiana. The city experienced rapid growth after World War II as African Americans migrated to Louisiana from all over America for jobs in new industries such as manufacturing and shipbuilding. New Iberia experienced several waves of violence in the late 1960s and 1970s; however, public safety has since become one of the city's most pressing concerns.
Iberia is a region in the southwestern United States. It was first settled by Spanish settlers in the early 17th century. The area became part of American Louisiana in 1803. In 1815, Iberia was ceded to France as part of the Treaty of Paris following the Napoleonic Wars. After French and Spanish rule ended, Iberia became a Native American reservation.
