The history of the Natchitoches Army Reserve Unit begins with its incorporation into the Louisiana National Guard on November 15, 1942. The unit was mobilized for World War II on December 1, 1941 and served in World War II from December 1, 1941 to September 2, 1945. The unit returned to civilian life after the war and participated in many social functions until it was disbanded on October 12, 1946. On February 5, 1951, the Natchitoches Army Reserve Unit was reactivated as a separate company within the Louisiana National Guard. It continued to serve as an active duty unit until it was disbanded on October 12, 1946. On November 15th of that year, the Natchitoches Army Reserve Unit became part of the new Louisiana State Guard. The new organization provided military support for state government activities including civil defense; emergency relief; and law enforcement. The organization wore militia insignia at all times and conducted drill exercises throughout the state. In 1957-58 both units were amalgamated into one entity and continued to wear their individual insignias while serving together as part of that organization's activation program during peace time which ended in 1959 when they were finally deactivated effective December 1st of that year due to budgetary reasons onlys two weeks shy of their 50th anniversary! The first Europeans to come to what is now Natchitoches were French colonists who founded a trading post there in 1715. In 1803, British traders established a small post next door and named it Fort St John after Admiral Sir John St John's Creek on its banks. The area became known as "Natchez" due to this early settlement. In 1836, Jefferson Davis was elected President of America and he appointed General James Wilkinson as Superintendent of Indian Affairs with jurisdiction over all Native American nations east of Texas (the so-called Indian Territory). Wilkinson began negotiations for treaty treaties with the Apalachicola River confederation which included the Natchitocches Nation and their allies The Catawba and Cherokee nation had long been seeking revenge against European forces for raids they considered hostile behavior by whites. When Wilkinson arrived in Natchitocches in December 1836 his objective was to finally achieve peace among these groups before any further action could be taken against them by Washington D.C.. However, Wilkinson soon found that many leaders among both tribes opposed him because they saw him as an European man looking out for himself rather than an American politician who would represent their interests effectively. The resulting power struggle within the tribe led to one major battle between Wilkinson's forces and those of tribal leader Mose Sekou on January 9th 1840 near mile marker 10 on US Highway 11 south of town center On October 13th 1840 Indians from various surrounding villages attacked white troops commanded by Major George Armstrong Custer along Ulysses S Grant's Overland Expedition during his march through Indian Territory from Deadwood skulls dangling from treesInexplicably one soldier died immediately despite being shot three times; two more soldiers were killed but not wounded; one trooper succeeded in reaching safety however Custer sustained serious wounds including severe head injuries which ultimately caused his death A military inquiry into this atrocity eventually exonerated Archibald Forbes, cavalry commander onildreded about 2 miles south at another location This event has been cited as one of history’s most Slaughterhouse-Five incidents

He ordered his troops to bring back Darius' son Xerxes with a golden crown as a sign that he respected and esteemed the Persian king's armies. This gesture set the precedent for future battlefield gifting traditions.
