And last year we brought back World War I-era tanks and artillery pieces from storage and exhibited them at our old post office downtown!

Morgan City, Louisiana is a small town located in the parish of Orleans, Louisiana. The population was 4,811 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest incorporated municipality in parish and has an area of only . The first settlement in Morgan City was made on the banks of the Opelousas River by Major John P. Morgan and his family from Georgia on November 16, 1814. In 1828, Colonel James K. Polk founded what is now known as Jackson Parish and named it for General James K. Polk who had died two years earlier while serving as president of the United States. In 1881, General Wm Hogg organized a militia company to suppress slave rebellions in southeastern Louisiana and named it for him after he had defeated Confederate General Robert E. Lee at New Orleans' Algiers Bayou on October 30, 1861. The post office was established at Morgan City on December 3, 1881 with A.M. Thornton as its first Postmaster-General and operated until it was discontinued by law on July 1st, 1907 due to budget cuts by then Governor Edwin Edwards which were implemented because of a desire to reduce crime rates in Morgan City during his term as governor beginning January 1st but did not affect other municipalities within Orleans Parish that continued to operate their own postal services On March 14th 1946 Hurricane Betsy destroyed much of downtown Jacksonville including most of the old courthouse where local officials convened before making decisions about what to do with all or most refugees who had come north following Katrina

He was a French Canadian general and hero of the Battle of Orleans Parish which ended the American Revolutionary War. Wilkinson later served as governor of Louisiana and was a force behind its annexation into the United States during the Mexican-American War. In 1898, when America became an independent nation, Morgan City became part of it along with other coastal towns such as New Orleans and Tampa Bay. The town has experienced some growth over the years due to its proximity to Baton Rouge and Gulfport; both are major metropolitan areas within striking distance of Morgan City. Today, MorganCity is known for its distinctive architecture – most notably its downtown district which is home to several large buildings dating back to pre-war days including the Richardsonian Romanesque Revival style's First Presbyterian Church (now called First Baptist Church) and Masonic Hall. Additionally, there are numerous smaller brick buildings throughout town that date back to before World War II or even earlier. Many residents still maintain their homes from this time period as well – many reside in older streetcar suburbs such as Midtown or Downtown whose streets remain unchanged since then! In addition, many local businesses have continued to thrive despite changes in technology or industry over time; these include restaurants like Joe's Crab Shack (which has been open since 1925), The Blind Tiger (a Chinese restaurant that opened in 1911), and Dooley's Department Store (founded 1888). Morgan City was founded by William Morgan in 1819. The city was named for General Morgan, the hero of the Battle of Antietam. The first store in Morgan City was a grocery store and post office. The town grew rapidly and by 1830 there were over 20 stores and 10 homes. A smallpox epidemic in 1835 destroyed much of the town, but new residents reconstructed it quickly. In 1839, word arrived that New Orleans had been sacked by Confederate forces and as a result all businesses closed within town including the Morgan Store. In 1845, General John Crayton's brigade attacked Union troops at Milliken's Bend and on the night of October 1-2 the entire population of Morgan City fled to Alexandria, Louisiana because they did not believe that Union soldiers would spare their homes if they could capture New Orleans first. By November 2nd most of Morgan City had returned to its former self with only a few houses remaining abandoned. The city experienced significant growth during Reconstruction following the Civil War.
