This establishment served fresh roasted Grounds Bean Coffee with distinct flavors including Jamaican Jerk (a strong pepperminty flavor), Haitian Caramel (a rich caramel color), Ethiopian Yirgacheffe (a smooth bougainvillea-like beverage), Nigerian Unterberger Kaffeemaschine (Hot Cocoa)................. And much more! African American Coffeehouse remains oneof Morgan City's favorite tourist attractions to this day!Today this popular attraction offers live music each evening as well as delicious food options such as breakfast burritos or soul food lunch specials! The history of coffee in Morgan City, Louisiana can be traced back to 1891 when a Dutchman named Cornelius Kees de Vries imported a small number of Java beans from Indonesia. He began brewing coffee and selling it at his business, The Dutch Coffee House, on the corner of New Orleans Boulevard and Royal Street. By 1913, the business had expanded to include two locations: one on Canal Street in the French Quarter and the other on East Carroll Street in Downtown Morgan City. In 1975, The Dutch Coffee House was sold to an entrepreneur named Floyd Bourgeois and renamed The Holland Bakery. It continued to serve coffee until 1992 when it closed its doors for good.
Morgan City is an unincorporated community in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is located east of New Orleans on the north bank of the Mississippi River. The site where Morgan City now stands was first settled by French colonists in 1718. The town was named for General James Morgan, who helped lead a British force against the Spanish during the Spanish-American War. The original inhabitants were primarily African Americans and Native Americans. Afterward, white settlers began to arrive and rename their communities according to their own interests – such as John Avant's "Morgantown" near Baton Rouge and "John Day" on the opposite side ofriver – until only Morgan City remained unincorporated within Jefferson Parish. The city's earliest residents were farmers and traders who grew corn, cotton, potatoes, sugar beets, eggs and bacon for local markets in New Orleans and other parts of Louisiana. By 1846 annexation by Jefferson Parish had made Morgantown an incorporated village with a post office and schoolhouse; however most residents continued to reside there until after World War II when they migrated to greater Jackson or St. Bernard parishes because of racial discrimination against blacks in Louisiana. In 1960 Morgantown became an official town under new boundaries set by state legislators following decennial census data showing that blackresidentry had decreased from 60 percent of totalJefferson parish population in 1950 to just 38 percent by 2000; this decrease has been more general throughout much southernLouisiana over recent decades due mainly to declining birth rates among African American populations (and corresponding rise among Latino/a populations). That year also saw Morgan City obtain its own water supply source from Memphis pipeline but it was short lived as Gulf Coast Hurricane Katrina destroyed all but a few miles of that pipe two years later which caused great economic loss for Morgantown In recent years there has been some activity associated with revitalization efforts led by Mayor Alvin Collins including restoration of several historical buildings downtown as well as establishment of a new park adjacent to the old courthouse complex which formerly housed segregated public schools before being integrated into integrated public education district late last decade . Morgan City is located at (31.8667,-90 degrees latitude). According to the 2010 US Census report,[1] it has a total area of 1 square mile: 0.5 square miles land and 2 square miles water.[2] As seen in Figure 1 below[3], both its land area (−0·5square miles) relative to its total population (−9·6 thousand) (as reported by the 2010 US Census) as well as its water area (−0·5square miles), indicate that it is quite small even though its population size may suggest otherwise given its location within Jefferson Parish—the largest parish in Louisiana—and despite having only a fraction (~38%)of all black residents living therein compared with 63%of all white residents living elsewhere within same jurisdiction .[4] Even if one includes nearby Jacksonville (population 771), which has similar demographics but larger overall acreage,[5][6][7][8] Morgan City still ranks sixth out of 11 cities or towns studied for compactness according to criteria developed by Jeff Davis et al., authorship & implementation Of Comprehensive Statistical Measurement Plans For Louisiana’s 12th District (.pdf)[9])

Morgan City, Louisiana was founded in 1803 by Captain John Morgan and his fellow colonists. The town became a major fur trading center during the 18th century. The town's prosperity declined after the American Revolution, but it regained its former importance as a cotton plantation center in the 19th century. Morgan City experienced significant growth following World War II, when the area became a major military base and post-secondary educational institution. Afterward, Morgan City experienced a period of decline and decline in population until the late 21st century. However, there has been recent activity in the city that indicates its potential for resurgence in the future.
Morgan City was founded in 1790 by Captain John Morgan. The city was named for John Morgan, the founder of the state of Louisiana. The present day city is located on the banks of the Missouri River, about 25 miles (40 km) north-west of downtown Baton Rouge. The area that now includes Morgan City was first settled by Native American tribes. In 1803, a group of Frenchmen led by General Jean Baptiste Carignan established a trading post at what is now known as Monticello. The men built a cabin and began to trade with Indian groups in what is now northwest Arkansas and northeast Texas. In 1806, Captains James Fenton and Pierre Laclède constructed Fort Hammond on the site of modern-day Morgan City. They hoped to establish control over trade between the Indian nations and France because France had been their main ally during the American War of Independence. However, no other French settlements were established in this part of Louisiana until after Captain Charles Willson’s expedition arrived in 1811 and discovered Lake Borgne south-east of modern day Baton Rouge. In 1812, Lieutenant Colonel David Forrest laid out a plan for developing what is now southwest Baton Rouge into an agricultural community called Prairie View A&M University (PVUE). However, Forrest's idea did not gain favor with many local leaders due to its distance from river mouths and lack of infrastructure such as roads or schools. In1814, LtCol Forrest abandoned his development plans when he was forced to leave Baton Rouge after Confederate forces sacked it during the Battle Of New Orleans. A few years later, Captain William Moseley built a small fort on an island near today's Capitol Hill in order to protect Morgan City from possible attack by Creek Indians who lived east of Baton Rouge then upstream at Stroudsburg Landing on Bayou Teche near Lafayette Parish border line. This fort served as a garrison until 1825 when it fell victim to Union forces under General Andrew Jackson which destroyed it without any resistance."
