Minden, Louisiana is a town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 5,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area. Minden was platted on December 11, 1848 by Myron and Clarissa Poe as a place called "Pine Bluff". On February 4, 1852, the town was renamed for General Andrew J. Montero after his victory at Buena Vista Hill in Mexico City against Mexican forces. The post office opened in 1853 and continued to be called "Pine Bluff" until it was renamed Minden on October 15 of that year. In 1865, General James Biddle surrendered at Red River Bridge to Confederate forces under Robert E. Lee and became an POW at Fort Pulaski near Mobile before being liberated by Union troops in April of that year. Minden had a general store which closed in 1902 but reopened as the Minden Rodeo Barn & Market Place around 1951-1955 with continuing operations until 2003 when it closed again due to lack of customers.
