Minden is a city located in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. The population was 12,921 at the 2010 census. Minden is the seat of Jefferson Parish and is also the largest city in the parish by population size. Minden has an area of 33 square miles (85 km²). The Orleans-based chemical company Ralston Purina manufactures some of the world's most popular pet foods, including Dog Chow and Cat Chow. The first Europeans to visit Minden were Acadian traders from what is now Nova Scotia in 1609. In 1802, Spanish explorer Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna discovered Minden while on his way to explore Louisiana. Spanish colonists founded a small town here in 1804 as part of a land grant to General Andrew Jackson for his services during the American Revolution. In 1836, when Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, much of Minden was destroyed or damaged beyond repair. However, most residents quickly rebuilt and today support strong community ties through their local businesses and cultural heritage that includes music, art and architecture dating back to pre-Civil War days. In 1907, entrepreneur Maudslay Sweeny founded her own paper mill in nearby Grayville after learning how to make paper from Native Americans she met on her travels around Louisiana countryside. This is a little bit of a long story, but one that I feel pretty confident in telling. My husband and I have been married for almost six years now and we both love firearms. Minden is a town located in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 5,383 at the 2010 census. It takes its name from the French word "menin" meaning "to lead." In 1814, General Andrew Jackson arrived in Minden to campaign for his political aspirations and picked up some of the local boys to help him with his wagon ride back downriver. After he won the election that year and became President of the United States, he took on several military campaigns through Louisiana including Battle of New Orleans. As part of this effort, he ordered General John C. Pemberton's division to march through Minden on their way back to Baton Rouge after a successful engagement against Spanish forces at Iberia Bridge on November 8th, 1815. The town was platted in 1838 by entrepreneur James Ralston as a trading post between Minden and Shreveport. By 1840 it had become an incorporated Village and by 1846 it had reached its present size with a population of 1,500 people. In 1848-49 two smallpox outbreaks occurred in nearby Jefferson Parish which caused fears that Mobile might become another target for the disease during the Mexican–American War but no ill effects were reported in either locality throughout what turned out to be one of history's largest vaccination campaigns ever mounted - or so it appeared at first glance. However little scientific understanding then existed about smallpox; only very limited information had been gleaned from traditional healers who could not easily control or monitor cases in their communities where epidemics frequently raged (for more see: Vibrio cholerae: A long-term view). In 1861 Confederate general Nathan Bedford Forrest raided Union communications center at Alexandria near Slidell and destroyed all telegraph poles before marching into northeastern Louisiana by way of Minden where he burned most everything before reaching Baton Rouge less than three days later on October 25th - just weeks after Lincoln made his famous “House Divided” speech denouncing secessionist conspiracies preceding that same day’s inauguration ceremonies within minutes of each other near Mansfield Junction east of Alexandria (see: Forrest’s Raid). Minden saw significant growth following World War II as many displaced persons from Europe settled here due to rationing policies instituted during that conflict (See: American Civil Liberties Union case against Mississippi distilleries). However since then much employment has come menial or low paying jobs associated with such things as manufacturing goods related metal fatigue welding processes used extensively today in construction accents concrete Building products Plumbing etc., while also providing employment opportunities for women now mostly working outside generally ungendered roles caring for children etc., making these difficult times slightly easier overall given current trends globally concerning how our economy is structured especially when contrasted with past generations who enjoyed relatively better living standards despite often having few if any opportunities opened up due mainly to technology advancements over time like television sets radios cars air conditioners...etc.) .
