Minden is one of the oldest towns in Louisiana and was established by French colonists in 1718. The town was named for Nicholas-Jacques Minden, Sieur de La Salle's aide-de-camp during his exploration of North America. The first European settlement in what is now Minden was made by Jacques Marquette on March 5, 1699 as an outpost on the Red River to trade goods with Native Americans who were living along that route. Jesuit missionaries arrived in Minden on January 3, 1700 from Sainte Geneviève (now Metairie), Louisiana and began missionary work here. Father Francois Xavier Vigneron served as pastor for about twenty years before he retired to France in 1768 due to poor health and Dissolution of the Catholic Church in Louisiana. The first school in Minden taught reading and writing but it closed around 1802 because of lack of funding from the state government. A second school opened but it also closed within a few years because there wasn't enough space or money to build a new building. In 1815, James Polk became president of the United States and ordered all public schools be closed across America due to financial irregularities linked to his presidential campaign treasury scandal which had involved use of fictitious bank accounts without proper documentation In response to this initiative by President Polk, local citizens gathered together $1,000 and built a new school system that included two buildings: one for boys and one for girls which opened September 1st 1865 named after Revédère Hervé Duchesne parish priest who took over as parish leader upon Priest's death six months earlier mindenerockets softball team won state championship game against Monroe last year

When Grant arrived at Fort Belvirot late that year, he discovered that many of his subordinate commanders were scattered far and wide across the Confederacy - most notably General James Longstreet at Petersburg Peninsula south of Richmond, Virginia.) For this reason, Grant decided to move his principal commands overland from Petersburg Peninsula to Fort Benning on Georgia's Eastern Shore - about halfway between Richmond and Atlanta - so that they could be reinforced by fresh troops should hostilities break out again along the river corridor.
