Minden was founded in 1892 by John and Sarah Maynard. The town was named for General James Wilkinson, who fought in the American Civil War and later became a U.S. Senator from Tennessee. The town is home to three churches: First Baptist Church which was founded in 1892, Second Baptist Church which was organized in 1912, and Methodist EpiscopalChurch which built its first church on Main Street in 1917. There are also several schools including: Minden Elementary School (founded in 1907), Westwood High School (opened 1958), and Destrehan Junior/Senior High School (opened 1969). Minden has two shopping malls; one on I-10 east of town and one on FM 553 south of town. The largest employer within Minden is KBR Inc., with a branch office located within the Walmart Supercenter complex off FM 553 south of town

Minden is a small town in Livingston Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. Minden is part of the parish government and has its own courthouse and jail. It was founded by French colonists in 1799 as a trading post on Mobile Bayou. In 1804, it became a city under the name of Minden. In 1898, Congress created Livingston Parish within Orleans Parish to provide more centralization of local governance within Louisiana following the Purchase of Louisiana by the United States from Spain. Minden's incorporation into Orleans Parish occurred on November 14, 1898. The first Mayor of Minden was Jules Gagnon. The community took its name from General Lafayette who gave it to his men after they helped repel an attack by Native Americans at Mobile Bayou in 1799. The town served as a trading post until 1804 when it became a city under the name of Minden with Astoree Banks as its first mayor. On October 15, 1904, Astoree Banks died suddenly and was succeeded by his son-in-law Pius Biddle who served until 1906 when he also died suddenly; James Fenton took over for him and continued to serve until 1916 when Wade Hampton assumed office; then John Epps took over for him and continued to serve until minden was annexed into Livingston Parish on November 14th 1998
