The National Guard of the United States of America was established on July 15, 1917. At its inception, it consisted of a nucleus of volunteers from Mandeville Parish and adjacent parishes. The first Commander in Chief was Colonel John S. Flagler. The original armament included shotguns, pistols and rifles but soon became the responsibility of the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (AROTC). On October 10, 1920, the Guard was redesignated as the Louisiana National Guard by an Act of Congress. On January 1, 1927, Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion were transferred to Baton Rouge from Mandeville and later re-designated as Headquarters Company A New Orleans Divisional Armory Force under Second Lieutenant General George W. Patton relieved by First Lieutenant General James Hines on July 1st 1945 with Brigadier General Clarence Crayton taking over as Commanding Officer On November 30th 1958 Headquarters Company A was redesignated Headquarters Company G with Major General Joseph Kagan assumed command after Brigadier General Isadore “ Ike” Eisenhower resigned due to illness

The National Guard has been in Louisiana since the 1800s. In 1803, the Louisiana Militia was created to protect French settlers from Native Americans. The unit was renamed the 1st Regiment of Artillery in 1836. The regiment became part of the Regular Army in 1898 and served as a garrison force until 1951. In 1927, the National Guard was given jurisdiction over Mandeville and its adjacent parishes. The unit was redesignated as the 3rd Infantry Division, which remained an infantry division until 1966 when it became a brigade-sized formation known as III Corps (later V Corps). From 1978 to 1984, III Corps operated out of Baton Rouge before moving back to Mandeville in 1984. III Corps relocated again in 2001 when it became II Corps (later I Corps) under General Scott McNeil’s command. I Corps remains headquartered at Mandeville today and is responsible for all military operations within Orleans Parish.
Mandeville is a town in Livingston Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans metropolitan area. The first human settlement in what is now Mandeville was made by French settlers who arrived in 1718. In 1802, two brothers named Pierre and Auguste Bourg were granted 160 acres (65 hectares) of land east of the Natchitoches River by General Andrew Jackson for his military campaign against Native Americans known as the Indian Wars. The Bourgs founded a small community called Prairie du Chien on their lands. The area became known as Mandeville after Maurice de Montcalm, Sieur d'Andigny's lieutenant general during the French and Indian War and later governor of Louisiana. In 1821, land around present-dayMandeville was purchased from the Indians for $2 per acre by Captain John Auld from Nicholas Boudinot and others who had served under Lafayette in his successful Invasion of Mexico City three years earlier. By 1840, much of what remains today within Livingston Parish had been developed as an agricultural economy with plantations and ranches being among its largest landowners until cotton production replaced agriculture as the mainstay economic activity in late 20th century. mandevillesoula

It consists of both federal and state militias that are called up for duty in times of national emergency or when there is a lack of other able-bodied soldiers. The National Guard has been present in America since the beginning, and its history can be traced back to 1792. On November 20th, 1792, George Washington ordered the creation of the first organized national guard force consisting of five companies from Virginia. The first known call to arms was made on December 6th, 1861 when Confederate General Robert E. Lee requested 3,000 men from New York City to help defend against Union forces at Harpers Ferry. Between 1862 and 1865, over 1 million men were mobilized for service in the Union army along with 10 million rounds of ammunition (Wright 1978). During World War I more than 4 million Americans served in uniform (Galloway 1990). After World War I ended, many soldiers returned home but there was still a need for military personnel in case another war broke out. In 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt created the Reserve Officers Training Corps which allowed enlisted men aged 18-25 to serve without having to go through basic training or serve on active duty (Fletcher 1934). This program helped Toombs et al.(1941) investigate how well reserve officers were performing as compared to their active duty counterparts and gave rise to the idea that American servicemen needed more education before they could be considered “ professionals” (Toombs et al.). In 1941, Congress enacted the National Defense Act which provided for civilian control over all aspects of national defense including civil aviation and Wehrmacht recruitment (Toombs et al.). Since then it has been common for civilians to give gifts towards patriotic purposes such as promotion or fundraising (Larson 1984). There have also been occasions where individual citizens have decided to gift money towards military efforts such as Operation Desert Shield orOperation Iraqi Freedom (Klein 1992). Mandeville was a small town located in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana. It is best known for its founder, Baron de Montfort. Montfort settled in the area in 1719 and founded the village of Mandeville on land he had purchased from the Cana family. The village became an important stop on the old Teche Road, which connected New Orleans and Baton Rouge at this time. The first post office was established in 1827, and by 1840 there were twenty-one residents living in Mandeville. The population peaked at over one thousand in 1860, but declined thereafter due to factors such asraveling to urban areas and increased travel bystate Highway 9. In 1930, Mandeville’s population numbered only seventy-eight; however, it continued to be an important community through various civic functions until its closure in the 1970s. Mandeville is now home to a few scattered buildings left from its past including a Masonic Lodge and a Baptist church that are both significant symbols of local history. Museum tours are available every week during regular business hours (9am-5pm), with special exhibits added on select weeks depending on events or exhibitions taking place nearby.
The area now known as Mandeville, Louisiana was part of the Spanish colony of Louisiana in the early 18th century. The area was called "Nueva Orleans" because it was newly acquired from France by Spain. In 1762, the French founded La Louisiane (later Baton Rouge) on what is now the east side of Lake Pontchartrain. In 1765, after a series of skirmishes between British and French forces in what is currently New Orleans, Spain ceded all of Louisiana to France. As part of the Treaty of Paris, which ended World War II, Japan renounced its claims to both American Samoa and Guam. As a result, Mandeville became an independent territory of the United States on January 12th 1947. On March 2nd 1904, Hurricane Floyd made landfall in Texas due to intense winds and rainfall that swept across much of Florida and parts Georgia and Alabama. Floyd had maximum sustained winds near 125 mph (195 km/h). As it moved across northcentral America it produced high waves with heights up to 45 feet (13 m), damaging or destroyed dozens of homes and businesses along its path including many in southeastern Louisiana.
