The United States Air Force deployed gift history to Lake Charles, Louisiana in the form of aircraft and equipment during the Vietnam War. The air force unit that deployed was the 388th Tactical Airlift Wing. The 384th Tactical Airlift Squadron is responsible for providing cargo and passenger transportation to Military installations located in Louisiana. The 383d Tactical Airlift Squadron is a light transport squadron which provides personnel and equipment support to other tactical units within the military as needed. The 382d Rescue Squadron is also composed of an HH-60P helicopter squadron which provides search and rescue services for downed or injured aviators or members of the public. These organizations are essential to the success of airlift missions throughout Louisiana. During World War II, three squadrons from New Orleans were activated as part of General Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (GHAEF). One squadron was mobilized on 15 September 1943 at Roosevelt Field, New York City; this squadron served under Lieutenant General George C Marshall until its activation on 3 May 1945 at Drew Army Airfield, Florida. The second mobilization occurred on 6 December 1944 when two squadrons were activated at Kelly Field, Texas; these squadrons served under Major General James H Wright until theiractivation on 1 January 1945 at Roswell Army Airfield, Georgia. In total ten squadrons were activated during World War II with four being assigned permanently toGHAEFHQ in England while six flew training missions over Japan before their deployment overseas as part of VI Bomber CommandOperation “Hornet” on 2 February 1942 began with attacks against Japanese cities including Tokyo and Osaka followed by raids against Nagoya and Kobe nights preceded by fighter sweeps over Japan’s capital city Allahabad 10 days later with one successful raid using B-25 Mitchell bombers escorted by P-47 Thunderbolt fighters resulted in strategic bombing mostly Targeted industrial areas such as: Mitsubishi Aircraft Factory Yokohama; Osaka Shipbuilding Company Kure Kaisha etc., however all bombers returned safely without loss of life except for one pilot killed when his engine failed near Hiroshima after making it all the way across Japan then returning successfully only hours after takeoff! In total 99 aircraft were operated during WWII! As a result of WWII both New Orleans Air National Guard Squadrons (No ANG) reactivated Nos 138/244 McCook AAF Lubbock Texas (now non flying unit) equipped with P-38 Lightning fighter planes effective 4 Jan 1946 Stricken due to lack assets available world wide Other than disbanding ANG unit No ANG units active during early postwar years include 173d Fighter Wing Teaneck NJ* activated 11 Mar 1948 reassigned inactive 29 Nov 1947 *Inactivated 25 Apr 1949 effective same day 146th Fighter wing Beaumont TX converted 9 Jun 1948 reorganized intoAir National Guard unit It should be noted that not every American serviceman stationed overseas participated in wartime gifting functionssuch as aircraft or equipment deployment throughout Louisiana long ago! For example there have been no deployments attributed to either Marine Corps Forces Europe (MCFE) or United States Naval Forces Europe since 1978! It wasn't until recently that gifts became an integral part of military culture back home again following Operation Desert Storm where Gifts became commonplace among both combatant forces involved along side support items like food stamps and mental health programs for troops Deployed back home!! Lake Charles, Louisiana is a town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Shreveport–Bossier City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The history of Lake Charles dates back to 1812 when it was a small village on the banks of the Atchafalaya River. In 1886, General James K. Polk appointed Colonel George Harkins as commander of Confederate forces in southern Louisiana and ordered him to construct a fort at what became known as Fort Polk (now Lake Charles). The city began to grow around this military installation and by 1900 had become an important junction for trade with nearby parishes and states including Texas and Arkansas. In 1906, General John Pershing designated Fort Polk as headquarters for all American forces in World War I and renamed it Camp Beauregard after Confederate general Robert Ewart Beauregard who had fought in the war on the Union side. By 1919, most of Baton Rouge had been destroyed in a fire that swept through that city; however, Fort Polk remained standing as an operational military facility until shortly before its closure in 1971. The post-war era saw various changes take place at Fort Polk including its conversion into a training center for Army Rangers during World War II; its use as home base for U.S Marine Corps aviation operations during Vietnam; and finally its activation as a park following Hurricane Katrina which caused extensive damage to bothFort Polk and neighboring Alexandria parish communities north of Lake Charles on September 29th 2005
