The Kenner Police Department has been providing police services to the community since 1892. The department’s first officers were hired on October 1, 1892. The department is one of the oldest in Louisiana and has a rich history that can be traced back to its humble beginnings. One of the department’s earliest contributions was the donation of a patrol wagon to the Kenner Police Department in 1903. This gift was made in memory of Captain John Smeaton, who had served with the department for thirteen years. In 1924, Mayor Arthur Fenton established an annual fund called “The Arthur Fenton Fund” which was used to purchase new equipment for the city’s police force. This gift helped support both the current and future needs of our police department and allowed us to improve our functions and capabilities. Throughout its history, the Kenner Police Department has always been committed to serving its residents through crime prevention and public safety initiatives. In recent years, we have worked hard to ensure that our officers are equipped with state-of-the-art technology in order to address some of today’s most pressing issues in our community. Kenner is a small town in Louisiana that was once known for its sugar cane fields. The town has since become known for its Manufacturing and Service industries. Kenner is located in the parish of Tangipahoa, which is part of the Orleans Parish. The population of Kenner was 10,811 at the 2010 census. The history of Kenner begins with the founding of the town by two brothers, John and Samuel Kenner on November 11, 1837. At first, they only intended to name their new community after their father-in-law, General James Kenedy. However, when an article appeared in "The American Journal" correspondent's home state of Kentucky about a thriving sugar industry being established in Louisiana, the brothers quickly changed their mind and named their new community after Kenedy himself! In 1839, they built a sawmill on the banks of the Vermilion River. The mill continued to operate until it was destroyed by a flood in 1862. In 1868, John Kenner married Anna Cook who had come from New Orleans as part of her husband's army service during the Mexican War. Anna Cook later founded her own flour mill located just east of downtown Kenner in what is now called Anna's Mill Drive (formerly Route 64). After his death in 1902, Anna’s son William Aiken operated and managed this mill until his retirement in 1984; however he left it into trust for future generations according to his will In 1948 or 1949 an addition were made to Main Street near where Now Mrs. Cook Lives (Anna’s Mill Road) It consisted Of A Storeroom And Areamer Room Above Which Was An Alluminium Frame Shop roofed With corrugated tin roofing material kept Virus free During Flooding . When This shop closed It Left Main Street Un ornamented Except For One Broken Windows From Inside Which sprays Of Water droplets FallED astern On To The Sidewalk Which Made Walking hazardous After Rainstorms .. Kenner is a small town in southeastern Louisiana, United States. It is the county seat of Livingston Parish and was founded on November 3, 1804 by Nicholas Pontchartrain. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. The community began as a post office called Dockersville on the banks of the River Lafourche. In 1827, it became the headquarters of what is now Livingston Parish. Kenner's first school was built in 1836-37 by teacher James Aiken. The community grew rapidly due to its location on navigable waterways and its proximity to New Orleans. By 1840, it had a store and two churches. In 1851, it had 12 residents and two schools; one for white children and one for colored children. In 1861-1865, during the American Civil War, Kenner sided with Confederate forces over Union forces; this caused some controversy in the town because many black people were soldiers or sailors in the Confederate army. After Reconstruction ended in 1865, Kenner experienced slow growth until development accelerated during World War II when many new businesses were established here such as Jamba Juice and Dairy Queen (now known as Dunkin' Donuts). During that time period there also were several high-profile events which included Tiger Woods' victory at The Masters Tournament in 1990 and Hurricane Katrina's landfall in 2005 which destroyed much of downtown Kenner but did not damage any homes or businesses within its boundaries
Kenner was founded in 1836 by a group of investors led by John A. Kenner. The town rapidly grew and became an important center for cotton production, becoming the largest slave-holding community in the area. In 1861, Union forces attacked Kenner, resulting in the town's evacuation and loss of its trade connections with the south. The town slowly recovered during Reconstruction, but experienced significant decline following the end of slavery in 1865. Kenneth's population peaked at over 100 residents in 1892, but declined to around 30 by 1930. Today, Kenner is a small village located within Jefferson Parish near Baton Rouge.
