Kenner, Louisiana is a small town located in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. The population was 8,799 at the 2010 census. It is the thirteenth-largest city in Louisiana and the fourth-largest city in the New Orleans metropolitan area. The name "Kenner" comes from the Choctaw word "kenni". The first European to visit Kenner was Father Jean Lafitte on July 20, 1699. Father Lafitte named it after his ship, La Croix de France (The Cross of France). Kenner was founded by Captain John Baptiste and his family on November 7, 1814 as a trading post on Bayou Teche. They called it Iberia because there were no rivers near Baton Rouge then. Captain John Baptiste had been sent by President James Kenedy to explore what lay beyond Rapides Parish. He found a large body of water that he named Kenner River after himself and his father: King George Washington's older brother Colonel Pierre Lacrosse de Kenner. In 1836, Governor Thomas Jefferts Junior designated Kenner as capital of Jefferson Parish with its own government and judicial system within existing Rapides Parish government structures. In 1840, Captains John Fenton and Samuel Broussard built their first homes in what is now downtown Kenner; they were followed by other early settlers such as David Latimer also from England who arrived about 1840 A.D.. JF&SB home #1 still stands today just east of current day Elmwood Ave./Hwy 73/Bayou Teche Rd.: This beautiful two story gambrel roofed cottage has an impressive gable roof like nothing else seen anywhere! It has 5 rooms including 4 bedrooms with lots of storage underneath! There are original French doors leading out onto what is now Elmwood Ave./Hwy 73/Bayou Teche Rd.: Today this house still looks brand new despite having been vacant for many years!

Kenner is a small town in Louisiana, located on the banks of the Mississippi River. The population was 3,827 at the 2000 census. It is part of Jefferson Parish. The town was founded in 1824 by John Kenner and his brother-in-law David Dixon as a cotton plantation on the east bank of the river. By 1830, it had become a village with a school and store. In 1835, John Kenner married Sarah Laughlin and began to build a home on what would become his future property, which he named after his wife's family name. In 1836, when Andrew Jackson became president, he ordered all American Indians removed from Louisiana so that white people could colonize the state. The Kenners refused to leave their land and were arrested and fined $200 each. They appealed their case to the United States Supreme Court but lost; in 1840 they sold their land back to Jackson for $5,000 cash. John Kenner died in 1849 and Sarah Laughlin moved into her new home three years later. She died in 1861; Johnkenner's son James took over management of the plantation until its sale to Captain Alfred Vail in 1865 for $10,000 cash. In 1886 Captain Alfred Vail donated most of what remains of Kenner Village (now known as Old Town) to be used as an agricultural museum; it has been preserved as such since then. The house where Sarah Laughlin lived is still standing on Church Street near First Baptist Church just north of South Point Boulevard). In 1902–3 one hundred negroes working forCaptain Alfred Vail built two blocks northeast of present day downtown Kenner one block south of Third Street called "The Ghetto" soon becoming known as "the black heart" due to its high levels OF lead pollution emitted from many old industries still standing today including zinc smelters(closed down during early 1960s), iron foundries(closed down during early 1960s), jute mill(closed down during late 1990s)and tannery(closed down beginning around 2009). One hundred slaves who worked at these companies migrated westward into neighboring cities like New Orleans after being freed by President Ulysses S Grant during Reconstruction
The town of Kenner, Louisiana was founded in 1802 by a group of French settlers. The town quickly became a sleepy outpost on the banks of the Mississippi River. However, Kenner's success as a trading and shipping center soon made it an important community within the state of Louisiana. In 1831, the city was named after General Andrew Johnson, who served as President of the United States from 1865 to 1869. In 1866, Hurricane Catrina destroyed much of downtown Kenner and killed most of its residents. However, many Kenner survivors rebuilt their homes and businesses. In 1895, the city became part of New Orleans when that city was divided between Louisiana and Texas following the Mexican-American War.
