He started to grow coffee beans and sell them to local merchants. By 1825, McNulty had founded his own coffee mill on the banks of the Assumption River. The mill was one of the first in Jennings and it helped establish the town as a center for coffee production. Over time, other small farmers started to grow coffee and share their products with local merchants. The growth of the Coffee Industry in Jennings led to an increase in population and development within the town itself. In 1865, McNulty donated land to establish what is now known as McNulty Park. This park served as a shopping center, schoolhouse, and agricultural production plant for many years. Jennings, Louisiana is a small town in the U.S. state of Louisiana and the seat of Jefferson Parish. The population was 5,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Baton Rouge metropolitan area. The first coffee beans were grown in what is now Jennings in 1846 by Captain John Sibley and his family who operated a landing on the Assumption River near present-day Thibodaux. They sold their coffee to early French Americans living along the Mississippi River for trading purposes, as well as to planters on the East Coast for shipping purposes. In 1851, Captain John Sibley's son-in-law Colonel Troup bought some land at Big Easy and built a plantation there called "Troup's Earldom". The Coffee Company was organized under law on October 1, 1852 by Colonel Troup with Prophet Isaiah Wright as secretary treasurer. In 1861 General Robert Ewell captured New Orleans from Confederate forces under Johnston and began Reconstruction which included implementing pro-Union policies through legislation such as The Enforcement Act of 1865 providing that all property seized by Union troops during or after the Civil War must be returned to Confederates without compensation or process of law; this effectively ended slavery in Louisiana so cotton could be grown again on new plantations throughout much of southern Louisiana free from slave labor). As a result many former slaves moved northward into what is now Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Missouri where they formed black communities known today as African American Vernacular English (AVERE) speaking areas around large white cities like Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta and Houston while some continued southward into Spanish based areas like Baton Rouge but primarily within AVERE speaking areas like St Tammany Parish east of Lake Pontchartrain.) Coffee farming resumed along these lines in eastern Arkansas beginning around 1920 when integrationist Republicans took control of local affairs due to pressure from northern Democrats seeking electoral gains at a time when racial tension was high across southern states following Reconstruction (see also: Black Belt region).

The community is named for George Jennings, who donated land to make it a center for education and cattle raising. Jennings was founded on July 1, 1885 by J.D. Latham and Wm. H. Dickinson with assistance from General John Crain and other philanthropists. Jennings is located at (31.838291,-92.527484). It has an elevation of 6feet (1meter). The first settlers to Jennings were men who had come overland from Texas along the Red River Valley route in 1885-86 under the leadership of J D Latham and William H Dickinson II with the help of George Jennings, Sr., son of George Jennings, Sr.. James Meeks was one such pioneer and he built his home near what is now downtown Jennings on what would become known as "Meeks Ranch". Mr Meeks later sold his interest in Jennings to Wm.H Dickenson Jr., father of Wm .HDickinson III who also founded Livingston Parish government which still operates today as part of the State government system in Louisiana Many other pioneers followed during that early period including Elisha Coffin, Abram Ransom etc… In 1905 David Auld purchased 7 acres (2 hectares) northeast of downtown from Dr Edwin Kreamer for $650 cash only with no deed given! This property became known as "The White House" because it served as headquarters for many years for City commissioners before being moved to its present location across West Broad Street from Main Library on December 3rd 1924 In 1922 Gertrude Blackburn bought 129 acres (51 hectares) southeast of downtown from David Auld for $10,000 dollars! This became known as "Blackburn's Garden" because Mrs Blackburn spent lavishly upon its creation including building a tennis court, spa/pool, theatre and guest house which are still extant today In 1923 Donny Fenton added land east of downtown which became known as "Fenton's Ridge" after Donny Fenton himself who had financed much or all thereof through real estate investments .Mr Fenton also developed some farmland further west including areas now called Farnsworth Farms and Frye Farms
