Jennings, Louisiana is a small town located in the parish of St. Tammany in the Louisiana Purchase area of the United States. It was founded by French Canadians in 1803. The community took its name from General Samuel Jennings, who led an American force against the British during the War of 1812. The early settlers were subsistence farmers who grew crops and raised livestock. By 1830, Jennings had a population of about 100 people. In 1840, local residents voted to become a town and named it after General John Lubbock, commander of Ulysses S. Grant's army during the Mexican-American War. In 1851, Jennings became known as the "Gift to Man" because it was awarded by President James K Polk to commemorate America's victory over Mexico at Goliad Creek near modern-day Brownsville, Texas. The gift was made possible by an appropriation from Congress that had been passed following America's successful effort to purchase Mexican land in what is now Texas and California for $21 million dollars. Jennings has since seen numerous changes both within its own community and throughout southeastern Louisiana overall due to economic development and growth associated with petroleum exploration and production in the area over the past several decades. In recent years, Jennings has also become known for itsFestivals which annually attract more than 100000 visitors from throughout southeast Louisiana each year!

Jennings, Louisiana is a small town in the state of Louisiana. The population was 1,754 at the 2010 census. It is located in Jefferson County. The history of Jennings starts with several families who began to live there in 1855. They were part of the group that included many people from Texas and Oklahoma who came overland to unknown destinations on the western frontier during the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854. When they arrived, they brought their cattle and corn back with them and started a farm around what is now downtown Jennings. They named their farm "Cottonwood" after one of their early pioneers, Cottonwood Parish Clerk John A. Jennings Sr., who had come overland with his family in 1857. In 1865, when it became apparent that Mississippi would become an independent country as a result of the Civil War, Jennings voted to secede from Louisiana so that he could keep his land and vote in his own election! The other farmers followed suit soon afterwards. Jennings experienced some difficult times during its early years because it was not easy to get water pumps installed for washing clothes or getting milk delivered to people's homes due to lack of infrastructure at that time. However, through hard work and determination, Jennings slowly grew into one of the most prosperous towns in Jefferson County for many years before experiencing some major changes during Hurricane Katrina which destroyed almost everything within three days! Since then, Jennings has undergone a number of renovations and additions which have helped make it an even more thriving community today including: new schools (including a high school), larger businesses, more apartments/condos/hotels than ever before, a new health clinic, a new police department - all while maintaining its unique character as "Cottonwood Village".

Jennings, Louisiana is a town in Rapides Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 511 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Rapides Parish. Jennings was founded in 1885 by James Epps and his wife Nannie Jennings as a small farming community on the banks of Barker Bayou. It became a city in 1959, when it amalgamated with neighboring Port Arthur to form the new parish of Rapides-Barker. The firstatted land for Jennings was purchased from John Fenton for $1,500 on July 1, 1885. The first settler was James Epps who named it after himself and his wife Nannie Jennings who donated the land to him and their children. James and Nannie had been married just two years when they made their first trip down Barker Bayou to purchase some farmland from Jethro Stroud for $8 per acre. From that day forward, James and Nannie were responsible for running the community until they passed away in 1907 at the age of 81 and 66 respectively. During Reconstruction Period (1868-1877), Jennings became one of several black towns located within white supremacist rule across southeastern Louisiana due to its location wedged between Confederate territory controlled by Union generals Welles Fargo & Co., Transylvania County under Confederate control, and Jefferson Davis' last stronghold on Baton Rouge Island before he fled north into Canada following secession from the Confederacy
