Jennings, Louisiana is a town located in the southwestern corner of Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. The population was 12,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Baton Rouge metropolitan area. The first coffee beans were roasted here in 1867 by José Gonçalves and other early coffee entrepreneurs. Coffee beans are grown on 5,000 acres of land near Jennings. The town's namesake was John Buford Jennings who served as sheriff from 1893 to 1895 and also founded the First Baptist Church in Jennings in 1892. Coffee beans have been dried on small family farms here since before there were large commercial roasters around this area. Today, many local farmers still roast their own coffee for their families and friends - a tradition that has continued for more than 100 years!
