The city has a rich history dating back to 1836, when French traders first set foot in what is now Hammond. They trade goods from their homeland, Italy, and were looking for new markets to sell their coffee. In 1898, German settlers arrived in Hammond and began growing coffee beans. This led to the development of two main businesses in Hammond - The German Kaffeehaus and The Italian Café. It wasn't until 1978 that Gourmet Coffee became anofficial name for this type of coffee shop in Hammond. The popularity of gourmet coffee has led to a number of business ventures being founded within the city limits over the years. One such venture was Gourmand Coffee Company which opened its doors on Main Street in 1993. This company provides customers with unique roasts and flavors that are not found at most Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts stores. These coffees are sold direct to consumers through online ordering channels as well as physical stores throughout central Louisiana. Hammond coffee history can be traced back to the early 1800s when Native Americans living in and around the Village of Hammond began growing coffee. Coffee was traded and sold between the village and surrounding communities, and it is said that coffee beans were ground and brewed here as early as 1794. In 1814, a group of Frenchmen settled in what is now Hammond. They began buying land along the Mississippi River which they used for farming purposes and also developed a small town called New Iberia. The Frenchmen named their new town after their home country – Iberian France. The first Dutch settlers arrived in this area in 1816, but they did not rename their settlement New Iberia because they did not want to associated themselves with France. The first commercial coffee production took place in Hammond in 1828 by J. Hennepin & Sons Trading Company who exported beans to England. A few years later, John Pemberton founded a grocery store on Third Street which became one of the most popular businesses in town. In 1840, Elijah Hicks opened an ice cream business on West Main Street which soon became one of the most important businesses in town. By 1850, there were over 10 businesses operating within walking distance of downtown Hammond! In 1861, sugarcane production commenced at nearby Stroudsburg where it was processed into refined sugar products such as molasses and syrup before being shipped downriver to various markets across North America. This led to increased traffic congestion on Third Street which necessitated the construction of a new road connecting downtown with Stroudsburg throughout 1860-1861! This road is now known as US Highway 910! Eventually, cotton production commenced at nearby Chalmette Mills which led to more traffic congestion on Third Street – again necessitating roadway construction throughout 1862-1863! Today’s First National Bank building (now part of Municipal Court) was erected on what was once Third Street between US Highway 910/Downtown Drive (now Veterans Memorial Boulevard) and Springdale Avenue during this time period! During this time period, many local organizations were formed such as the Masonic Lodge #521 (founded 1865), Italian American Club (established 1870), African American United Daughters Association (established 1875), First Baptist Church (founded 1878), Jr./Sr High School League #2 (formed 1886), Hammond Republican Club (#1 formed 1888), Women’s Christian Temperance Union #811(formed 1889).
Hammond, Louisiana is a small town located in the parish of Iberia and the civil parish of St. Bernard. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,711. Hammond is part of the New Orleans metropolitan area. The name Hammond comes from a post office called Hammond which was established in 1868. The history of Hammond begins with one man, John Chilton Hammond who founded a logging company in nearby Chalmette in 1872. The following year he married Sarah Averill and their first child was born in 1873. They quickly began to expand their business and by 1880 they had two children and a farmstead employing twelve men. John Chilton Hammond passed away in 1898 but his wife continued to run her own business until her death in 1925. She is buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery where she also shares an epitaph with her husband: "In memory of John Chilton Hammond who founded this little community 50 years ago". A few months after Mrs Hamond's death, her son-in-law Harry Laughlin took over operations of the family business when it became too difficult for him to continue running it alone due to health problems caused by age and arthritis brought on by working with saws all day long for many years.. He operated it until his death in 1974 when it passed into female hands again as Sarah's niece Eleanor said: "I am really sorry that we can't keep it open longer because people are getting less interested nowadays... there are no young people around here anymore". In 1984/1985 Mrs Eleanor Laughlin donated property (the old post office) on Bourgogne Street near Jefferson Avenue to be used as an aftermarket automotive parts store; however this store closed several years later due to lack of patronage or other reasons unknown at that time (it is once again vacant). In 2000/2001 a new four story drive-through church built on land donated by Mrs Eleanor Laughlin opened its doors thanks largely to fundraising efforts initiated by local high school students; however thischurch too closed shortly afterwards for similar reasons unknown at that time.'The New Orleans Times Picayune - Sunday, October 15th, 2000 Nonetheless, despite these setbacks the community has slowly been rebuilding since Sarah's death more than fifty years ago – most recently reaching humble heights during Hurricane Katrina when over 1,000 citizens gathered together at Bourgogne Street Elementary School shorty before landfall askingGodto help them through what they saw as another natural disaster. Despite some former struggles there has also been recent progress made including construction on a new high school which will be completed in 2020.

At first, Schultz wanted to name his business “Seattle-based Joe’s Coffee” because he thought it would help him attract more clients from Seattle for his new café business there (the original Starbucks store opened on May 18th). However, upon learning that Peet’s Coffee had already registered the name “Starbucks” with the US Patent Office before he had even made a proposal to Schultz, he changed it back to Joe’s Coffee just in time for Opening Day! 4) Nescafe: Nescafe was founded by Luigi Nespoli in 1957 as part of Italy's effort to gain international recognition for its espresso drinks (then known as "chocolate milk"). The company later shifted its focus from espresso drinks to cappuccinos/cups (and eventually lattes), becoming one of Europe's most well-known coffee providers (with over 200 locations worldwide). In 2001, Nestle acquired Swiss caffeine giant Swatch for $1 billion – giving Nescafe operations worldwide including North America under one roof! By 1900, Hammond had a population of 1,912 people. The town's growth stopped in the 1920s because of World War I and the Great Depression. However, since the 1990s, Hammond has experienced significant growth due to its importance as a transportation hub for neighboring Jefferson Parish and rural areas of central Louisiana. Today, Hammond is an important cultural center in central Louisiana with multiple restaurants and bars, as well as a library and museum.
