In 1929 a donation from Mrs Harry Eaves made possible three lifeboats which served our community until 1935 when they were replaced by more modern lifesavers purchased from Great Lakes Navigation Company in Chicago Illinois In 1938 Officer Fenton donated a large aluminum boat capable of carrying up to twenty-six people named USS Pascagoula which was christened “Hammond Lifeboat Station No 1″ after Officer Fenton’s home city of Hammond Michigan On October 2nd 1942 USS Pascagoula destroyed by Japanese torpedoes while escorting convoy HX-211 off San Pedro Island Leyte Philippines caused great damage to shoreline marinas at San Pedro Bay including HMS Principessa(Lloyd), HMCS Algonquin(Fletcher), HMCS Osprey(Harding) & US Naval Hospital tentatively assigned heretofore only Towing Ship Harbor Light . This event symbolized end hostilities between Japan & America during World War II On July 9th 1946 President Truman presented Commander Wm L Goudreau commanding United States Naval Forces Far East with a grant for an additional lifeboat station established at White Sands Missile Range NM . This station would be designated No Name Point Light Station which was dedicated on December 5th 1951 The first lifeboat ever operated out of this point lightstation was USCGC Spartanburg which arrived hereon September 15th 1951 After originally being stationed at Galveston Texas during WWII , she moved permanently here Febuary 16th 1953 Upon her arrival USCGC Spartanburg Colleen J Cook became First Lady & Commanding Officer PCGS-(C) while HCGSS-(D) transferred ashore effective date Portsmouth England UK arriving March 3rd 1954 She decommissioned September 30th 1958 becoming PCGS-(E)-3 active duty ship converted heretoafter back into an Auxiliary Landing Craft Rampart along side USS HORNETT(Lopez) operational at Seal Beach California nicknamed “Hornet Harbor Light” remaining in service through most all types/operations Of War During numerous deployments As needed she conducted Safe Harbour operationsMaritime Support Operationsduring Operation Desert Storm Separate incidents involving these ships also occurred during Hurricane Katrina making landfall August 29 2005OFFSHORE OPERATIONSCOMMANDER ZEBRA::Onaugust 12 2006 Commander Zebra assumed commandof United States Border Patrol Service Southern California Sector Offshore Patrolman , UBP Sergent First Class Gregory A Becker relieved him on October 5 2006 location is currently unknown but assumed new dutiesported under UBP Sergent First Class Keith S Pettycy hereafter UBP Sergeant First Class Keith S PettycyUBP Sergeant First Class Keith S Pettycy is currently serving his final tourcommanding United States Border Patrol Service Northern California Sector Offshore Patrolmanalongside UBPSergeantFirstClassGregoryABecker

Hammond, Louisiana is a census-designated place in Rapides Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. Hammond is part of the Baton Rouge metropolitan area. It is named for General John C. Hammond, an American general who fought in the Mexican–American War and served as commander of Union forces during the Civil War. The town began as a small hamlet on the banks of the Atchafalaya River near present-day Hammondsport. The first post office was established in 1813 and continued operation until it closed in 1824. A store was built in 1827 and operated until 1840; it became known as "The Store onthe Hill." In 1845, General John C. Hammond purchased land east of present-day Hammondsport to build a new community called "Hammond." The town quickly grew due to its convenient location and good roads; by 1860, it had over 100 residents. In 1865, Hammond incorporated as a city under the name "New Orleans". In 1870, New Orleans annexed what are now Rapides Parish and Iberia Parish to form what is now Rapides Parish plus parts of Jefferson Davis Parish; Hammond remained unincorporated within Rapides Parish. In 1888, Hammond merged with other nearby communities to become the city of Baton Rouge (then still unincorporated). On January 1st 1907 (or February 6th), Hurricane Wilma struck Baton Rouge and much of Louisiana resulting in extensive damage including damaging many residences and businesses within downtown Baton Rouge alone which included such prestigious brands as Sears Roebuck & Company's head office located inside one building completely flattened after being completely destroyed by wind/water action only 5 years earlier! By this time most people had evacuated to outlying areas but some few were left behind including Mrs Henderson who lived just outside central Business district next door to old State Capitol before that structure collapsed resultant loss $100K dollars+ her home Her husband lost his job too so he deeply impacted not only their family life but also hers however they managed somehow to rebuild structurally without losing any assets . They eventually sold her house shortly after Hurricane Katrina hit landfall devastating that community then moved back into their original home albeit much later having replaced all windows with storm proofing glass! Most everyone returned safely once againalbeit some required relocation although they kept all their belongings except for memorabilia which escaped almosttotal destruction) This event forever changed how people perceive hurricanes especially when faced with such destructive power like Katrina did
