The Hammond Army Depot was founded in 1892 as the Louisiana Arsenal of Technology. It became an army depot in 1907 and served as such until 1971. The current Hammond Army Depot is located on the west side of Hammond, Louisiana, within the city limits. The depot is responsible for supplying munitions and other military hardware to the United States Armed Forces. It has a long history of providing gifts to servicemen and their families. In 1916, the Hammond Army Depot donated a gift to the United States Military Cemetery at World War I battlefields in France. Hammond, Louisiana is a small town located in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. The population was 2,976 at the 2010 census. Hammond is the home of Hammond-Bossier State University and Hammond Air Force Base. The area around Hammond was first settled by French colonists in 1796. In 1803, General Andrew Jackson moved the U.S. military headquarters from Vicksburg to this area, which then became known as "Jackson's Landing." The hamlet of Hammond was platted in 1820 by John Luttrell and James Kenedy. It name derived from an Indian word meaning "a place where corn can be found." The first store opened at this location in 1824 by Hosea Bledsoe and Alfred Iverson. A post office called Hammond was established in 1828, and continued operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1830, a sawmill and gristmill were built on the east side of the road between US 71 (now US 9) and Industrial Road near present day Joe Blacksmiths Shop; these mills operated until about 1860 when they were taken over by the United States government for use as a military post garrison during the American Civil War (1861-65). By 1865, all but one of these mills had been dismantled or abandoned due to economic reasons; however, one mill still exists today as a museum within Railroad Park Cemetery off US 71 just south of Highway 9 west of town center; this mill is also known as Browning Mill #1 because its founder Jethro Browning purchased it from Union Army veteran George Pemberton for $826 (the equivalent of $). Hammond's economy changed dramatically after World War II when oil production began spurring development throughout Jefferson Parish including nearby Bossier City which soon outgrew Hammond's population size so much that it merged into Claiborne Parish effective date January 1st 1959 while Hammond residents converted to being annexationists annexed their own municipality status on October 25th 1960 becoming what we know today as Bossier City annexations reclassified under Claiborne Parish jurisdiction effective date November 15th 1960'. As with much else occurring during those years during postwar America there wasn't really any definitive answer or plan put into place to better manage such changes other than people simply trying to get along with whichever community they happened to live within while maintaining some level of connection both personal and professional despite many struggles along the way especially given how little support actually existed beyond officialdom particularly on either side especially given that state government at that point consisted onlyof three members elected through parishwide vote while Orleans Parish had twelve member Court House having ultimate say over local affairs not unlike our current situation where thirteen members are currently elected via appointment rather than popular vote although that number may changegiven recent court rulings involving property tax increases etc.) With limited resources available even back then most things tended towards being done ad hoc more often than not something like hiring people specifically tasked with developing plans for restructuring things like housing or creating new businesses etcetera generally speaking emailing friends/family/official contacts back home asking if anyone might have some information or ideas about what could be done since there wasn't really anything Anyone wanted to do much more than just try work odd jobs variously provided or finding someone who would let them use their house no matter how bad it looked so basically life went on pretty much unchanged mostly due largely to inertia more often then not

Hammond, Louisiana was founded in 1836 by John Hammond and his wife Esther. The town was named after General Andrew Jackson, who had been President of the United States at the time. Hammonds were one of the earliest settlers in what is now Hammond County. They operated a ferry service between Mobile and New Orleans until 1847. In that year, they built a gristmill on the current site of town and began to process wheat into flour. The Hammonds also ran a post office from their home until 1875. They Citizens Bank became nationalized in 1906 and continued operations as such until 1931. In 1922, Hammonds donated land to be used for an airport which served as the center for central Louisiana aviation traffic until it was closed in 1985. In addition to its agricultural activities, Hammond also produced cotton, hay, beer and other goods during this time period. A large cotton gin currently stands atop a hill near downtown Hammond which has been used since the early 1800s to produce white cottonseed oil. Other industry buildings include a munitions plant dating back to World War II; an appliance store; a restaurant; and two light industrial plants which have since been converted into apartments/condominiums/hotels/. The city has seen several businesses move out over the years including several car dealerships (most notably Ford) as well as several trucking companies including local distributer grain carrier Western US Grain Terminal Co-op LLC]. Hammond was founded by German immigrants in 1847 and named for General David Hammond, who fought in the American Revolution. Hammond was originally a small agricultural community with few businesses other than farming. The first post office opened in 1851 and the first store in 1852. In 1865, Hammond incorporated as a city and by 1870 had a population of 1,800. By 1900, Hammond had grown to 3,000 residents and its economy was based on agriculture and manufacturing. The City of Hammond lost its charter as a city due to low taxes during World War II; however it regained its charter after the war ended. The city experienced significant growth following Hurricane Katrina which destroyed much of downtown Monroe County including many homes and businesses within downtown Hammond itself as well as most of northeast Mississippi Avenue which ran through town center between Union Avenue to the north and Elm Street to the south (the street's name has been changed multiple times over time). entire neighborhoods were destroyed or severely damaged including Westgate Estates (now known as Gentilly), Lakeshore Drive (now Riverwalk Drive), Mid-City Center (now Old Town Square), Central Park Boulevard (now Independence Mall Boulevard), Parkview Terrace (now Meadowbrook Terrace) & Garden District (later renamed HobbyTown). As reconstruction began following Katrina many business owners closed their doors because they could not afford back-to-back insurance claims resulting in an economic vacuum that led to crime rates increasing considerably throughout New Orleans & Metairie areas during this time period
