Eunice is a small town in the parish of Vernon in Orleans Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2000 census. It is part of the New Orleans–The Woodlands Metropolitan Statistical Area. Eunice was named for General Lafayette and his wife Empress Eugenie of Austria-Hungary. In 1848, General Lafayette donated land to build a school in what is now Eunice. The first school building was built on the site in 1851 by Dr. John Bourgeois and Mrs. Rebecca Hoggemann. In 1865, the Loyola Academy (later known as Tulane University) moved to its current location on Elm Street near Third Street in Eunice after being purchased by Judge James Waddell from Drs. Bourgeois and Hoggemann for $2,500 cash and 10 slaves). In 1907, residents of neighboring Vernon petitioned for incorporation as a village because they desired better drainage facilities than those provided by Eunice's main street which was swampy and conducive to mosquito infestation; however, this request was not accepted until 1914 when it was approved with an amendment replacing "village" with "town". On October 11th 1915 pursuant to an act of the Louisiana Legislature no less than three-fifths vote of both houses passed an ordinance setting out guidelines for municipal government including that each household must own one vote in council while every other household has two votes; also included were regulations governing hours of operationGuildhall open from 7:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday without charge while law courts are open only from 9:00am to 3:30pm on Wednesdays except during court sessions; such days are called “lawyer’s days” since attorneys are not allowed into town between 9am and 3pm during these hours; all other public meetings must be held at least once per month at which time notice thereof shall be given either orally or written form sufficient time for opposition thereto having been given prior thereto as required by law...A bill introduced in January 1920 proposed that voting precincts should be apportioned based upon headcount rather than population size but it died before it could come up for a vote...On February 5th 1921 Governor Charles Cotes signed into law An Act Allocating Votes within Townships Within Which There Are Voting Precincts without regard To Population Size This action repealed an ordinance passed in 1914 which had apportioned voting precincts among township boundaries without regard To population size...Eunice's status changed again on November 17th 1922 when Hurricane Ernesto destroyed nearly all infrastructure (including water mains) within town limits leaving about 60% of the residents living off grid...The then Mayor Joseph Dominguez formed a committee chaired by City Marshal Gustave LeMaire consisting mostly local leaders plus himself with some outside help to rebuild materials lost during hurricane damage including new water mains, power lines etc..The committee began working feverishly starting early morning on November 18th 1922 designing plans for homes/businesses/roads/etc.; construction started immediately using salvaged materials available Eunice officially became a city on December 6th 1922 following passage of another act entitled An Act providing For Municipal Government And Allowing For Its Establishment In Two Cities Ouest And South Lafourche With Respect To Voting Precincts And Other Matters
The United States Air Force deployment gift history dates back to World War II when theAAF activated its first Special Purpose Unit, the Aeronautical Research and Development Command. The ARDC was redesignated as the USAF Research and Development Command in 1951. In 1957, the USAF organized its own air force wing, the First Air Force. The 1st AF was activated on November 3rd of that year at Grand Forks AFB North Dakota. On December 2nd, 1957 - two days after activation - 1st AF's first aircraft were delivered to RAF Brize Norton England as part of a lend-lease program with Great Britain. From then until 1958, 1st AF operated A-10 Thunderbolt jets from RAF Mildenhall England while also serving as an associate unit at Nellis AFB Nevada. In 1969,activated the Second Air Force which became operational on October 15th of that year at Seymour Johnson AFB North Carolina under Headquarters U.S. Strategic Forces Europe (USSTRATEGIC FORCES EUROPE). The SecondAF served as an all-weather fighter Wing providing air superiority over NATO member nations during Operation Desert Storm in 1990-1991 and continued operations until 1992 when it was inactivated along with other USAF wings during military downsizing following the end of World War II. On July 15th, 1972 - three months after activation - Ulysses S Grant National Memorial Flight Museum received its first Boeing 707 passenger jet for use as a display aircraft for USAF exhibits at McChord AFB Washington State where it remained until 1994 when it relocated to Seattle's King County International Airport where it currently resides among other Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules Aircraft owned by King County Aviation Services LLC which provides service to both MCI and Boeing 747 Airliners using Gate 5/Gate 6 facilities located adjacent to SeaTac Airport WA) In 1996 Alaska Airlines purchased rights to operate gate K5/K6 adjacent to SEA airport from Seattle's King County Aviation Services LLC and has since been used exclusively for transporting passengers and cargo consisting mainly of 737 Airliners operating out of Anchorage international airports including Fairbanks (FAB), Kotzebue (KOT), Sitka (SIT) & Eagle River (EAG)

Eunice was founded by French colonists in 1718 as la Ville église de l'Alliance (Church of the Alliance), and became an American settlement in 1803. The first settler was Jean Baptiste Chouteau, who arrived from Normandy on July 10, 1718 with his family and some items of furniture and supplies. He named his new community la Ville église de l'Alliance after the nearby parish church of Saint-Jacques-de-Lacombe which he had just completed construction on the shores of Lake Pontchartrain. La Ville église de l'Alliance soon became a thriving community with a Presbyterian church, two schools, and a post office. In 1803, when New Orleans was ceded to France by Spain following its defeat in the Napoleonic Wars, Eunice's leaders petitioned President James K. Polk to recognize their claim to be part of Louisiana under American auspices; they were successful in getting Polk to issue an executive order recognizing their claims on November 15, 1805. The town continued to grow rapidly during Reconstruction Period until it reached its peak population of 4,000 in 1920; however, it declined thereafter due to declines in agricultural production and milling activity; today there are only around 350 residents living within the boundaries of Eunice proper while another 950 live outside the limits established for it by state law.
