Fresh roasted coffee has been a tradition in Deridder, Louisiana for many years. The first beans were ground and shipped to La Louisiane in 1892 by Captain John A. McConnell, who was then the owner of the wharf on the south bank of the Mississippi River. The first café in town was opened by Rufus W. Cook in 1895 and served coffee until 1931 when it closed due to Prohibition. In 1933, Harry Kapp founded Kapp Coffee Company and began selling fresh roasted coffee from his factory on Patton Avenue in Deridder. In 1951, Mr. Kapp sold his company to Jovanovich Corporation and continued to produce fresh roasted coffee until 1971 when it changed its name to Metromedia Corporation. In that year, Metromedia Corporation merged with Coppola Coffee Enterprises which continued producing fresh roasted coffee until 1984 when it became part of Peet's Coffee Incorporated. In 1998, Peet's Coffee announced that it would no longer produce fresh roasted coffee because of an economic recession caused by changes in global trade patterns. However, production will continue at two small processing plants located outside ofDeridder through 2018 pending new flavor plans from Peet's management team

Deridder Coffee Company was founded in 1865 by Gideon D. and Amalia Deridder. The company became one of the leading roasters in the state of Louisiana, and soon enjoyed a large following among locals and visitors alike. In 1893, Deridder Coffee opened its own roast house on Canal Street in downtown Deridder. The company continued to expand its operations until the early 1920s, when it closed its doors for good.

A post office called Deridder was established in 1827, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1904.
In 1881, a group of Methodist ministers led by Rev. The first church services were held there on January 8, 1886.
In 1902, local cotton farmer John Troup donated land northeast of town for what would become Tulane University's new campus. With only about 200 residents living within the limits of present-day Derridder when it was created as an incorporated municipality in 1912, its growth has been largely based upon annexations and expansions made by neighboring municipalities over time – including Metairie (1948), Kenner (1974),New Iberia (1986), and Thibodaux (2005).

By 1965Deridder had reached its peak population with 1,811 people residing therein; however its decline began shortly afterwards due mainly to suburbanization initiatives initiated by adjacent municipalities.
