Denham Springs, Louisiana is a small town located in the Delta region of southern Louisiana. The population was 1,815 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Baton Rouge- Parish Micropolitan Statistical Area. The name Denham Springs comes from General James Denham who fought in the American Revolution and later served as commander of Fort Moultrie in South Carolina. In 1820, General Denham moved his headquarters to what is now called Main Street in Denham Springs. In 1827, Thomas Dickey founded a cattle station here and named it Dickey's Station after himself and his brother-in-law, Daniel Dickey. The first post office was established in 1829 with John Prentice as its first mail carrier. The town became an important stop on the "Crescent Route" which connected Baton Rouge with New Orleans and other parts of Louisiana. The route passed through Denham Springs several times before being abandoned in the 1870s because of changing travel habits. A local cotton gin was built near Main Street by Jno Gorman in 1892; it still operates today as a hotel/motel complex known as Gorman Place. A number of businesses were opened here during the 20th century including a grocery store (1909), two banks (1914), two auto dealerships (1928–29), four hotels/motels (1945–46), three liquor stores (1960s–70s) and one printing shop (1970). The last business closed down in 1998 but has since been converted into apartments. In recent years, development around Main Street has caused some traffic congestion on both sides of the street due to increased demand for housing close to downtownDenham Springs shopping areas such as Walmart and ExxonMobil Plaza Shopping Center which are also adjacent to Interstate 10 Exit 12B which allows easy access to I-10 without having to go through downtown Baton Rouge or cross I-10 at exits 15A and 15B which are used by truckers transporting coal mined along I-10 parallel to Interstate 10 east of Denham Springs

Denham Springs is a small town in Rapides Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans metropolitan area. The Denham Springs community was founded by John Denham in 1836 as a result of his purchase of 6,000 acres (2 km²) of land east of the Mississippi River. The original grant included present-day Denham Springs and parts of Chalmette and Old Metairie parishes. John Denham's grandson, George W. Denham Sr., continued to operate the farming enterprise until his death in 1922. His son George W. Denham Jr., who also operated a farm until his death in 1957, donated much of what is now known within the community as "DenHAM." George Washington Carver attended grade school in nearby Hammondsport before moving on to Tulane University where he earned an undergraduate degree in agriculture in 1907 and a graduate degree in forestry In 1912. He became head forester for Ladd–Hammond lumber company which owned land near DenHAM from 1911 to 1918 when it merged with another lumber company to become Ladd-Hammond–Norfolk Corporation . He later served as president and CEO from 1985 until its sale to Forest Products International in 2005 .
