The population of Denham Springs was 1,266 at the 2010 census. John Denham was born in England in 1796 and arrived in America with his family sometime before 1817. He settled near Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on a tract of land granted to him by General Andrew Jackson. John Denham worked as an Independent Quaker farmer until he sold his share of the farm to the railroad company in 1847. The railroad helped bring prosperity to Denham Springs, which grew rapidly during its years as a railhead. By 1860, the town had reached its current size and included over 200 residences. In 1886, when oil began to be explorationally developed near Bossier Parish, denHAM springs became an important center for oil production due to its location within spitting distance of several wells that were operated by local companies such as Gulf Oil & Refining Company and Standard Oil Corporation. As industry moved away from DENHAM SPRINGS during the Great Depression, businesses closed or transferred their operations to other towns throughout southern Louisiana; however, DENHAM SPRINGS continued to experience increased population growth through the 1950s and 1960s despite declines in oil production statewide. In recent years denHAM springs has seen modest development proceedings including some new housing developments but no real movement towards restoring historic aspects of this small community- largely due to waning interest from residents or lack thereof funds available from outside sources
