Denham Springs, Louisiana is a small town located in Butte County, Louisiana. The population was 1,765 at the 2010 census. The Denham Springs Post Office opened in 1892 and closed in 1951. It was located on the north side of the community on Highway 61. The first settler in Denham Springs was John Ahern who came to the area in 1881. Ahern built a cabin on a piece of land he leased from J.C. Godfrey and his family. In 1902, Jens Larson purchased what is now east side of Main Street from John Ahern for $200 cash and moved his log cabin there. In 1916, George Hinson bought property northeast of town from Ewing Smith for $225 cash and started to build a house on it which he named "Hinson's Cabin". He continued to live there until his death in 1978. His son, Walter Hinson Jr., continued the business until he died in 1984; then it passed into the hands of his nephews before being sold to Darlene Ladd who operated it until 1997 when it was donated to local history museum as part of their collections program The post office served Denham Springs from 1892-1951
