Since Denham Springs, Louisiana was founded as an air force base in 1941, the community has hosted numerous military and civilian employees of the United States Air Force. The airport and its surrounding area have been home to various squadrons and wings of the USAF over the years, as well as their families. Today, the Denham Springs Airport is one of nine global hubs for US Air Forces Global Strike Command (USAF GSC). It is also home to two operational fighter squadrons and four associate squadron headquarters. Additionally, there are a number of international mission sites located at or near the airport. In 1990-1991, they reopened under their present name - "Air Force Exchange" - which serves both AFG employees and locals alike since 1992. Since then, AFB Exchanges has undergone several expansions with new buildings on nearby acreage; most recently renamed from "Denham Springs Municipal Airport" to DENHAM SPRINGS AIR FORCE BASE after renovations completed in early 2018. Today AFB Exchanges offers more than just aviation supplies; it provides a unique shopping experience that includes displays on USAF aircraft models from World War II through today; interactive exhibits about local history;and live music nightly during summer months by military bands from all around the world!

Denham Springs is located in the southeastern quadrant of Louisiana. It was named for General John Denham, a militia officer who served during the American Revolution. The town sprang up around a small mill and sawmill on the banks of the Ouachita River. By 1841, Denham Springs had a population of 302 people. The mill closed in 1854, but it reopened in 1865 as the Denham Manufacturing Company. In 1898, the company merged with other companies to form The Coca-Cola Company. The mill continued to operate until 2002 when it was demolished and replaced by a new subdivision. Today, Denham Springs is an agricultural community that lies within the parish of Pointe Coupee Parish. It has a population of about 760 people and consists primarily of farmers and their families. Some businesses in town include an insurance company, a grocery store, and a car dealership. There are also several residences adjacent to the village center which offer tours or lodging for visitors during certain holidays such as Christmas and Easter.

It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Bogalusa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community has been settled since 1827 and first known as Bywater. It was named for General John Denham who served in the American Revolution and later became a U.S. Senator from Louisiana. The town site was originally part of what is now Bogalusa Parish and it may have been where General Denham met his wife Elizabeth during the early 1800s while he was serving with the American Revolutionary War army in CanadaBG>. He moved to Denham Springs about 1827 after gaining approval from local Native Americans to build a new home there on land they knew well because they had hunted and fished there for centuries. The first settler in Denham Springs were Isaac Morse and Caleb Smith who built a cabin near present-day intersection of Old US 90/US 95 (now FM 593) and FM 710 in 1830-31 whenDenham Springs was only 8 miles wide extent."Morse tried to open up trade with Mobile Bayou but no one wanted to cross that," said historian Donnie Hardwick."When he died in 1840, his cabin still stands outside of town."In 1847, Captain Fenton bought 2,000 acres around present day DENHAM SPRINGS from Samuel Keyate for $1 million dollars which included alluvial soils leading down into Mobile Bayou."Captain Fenton developed this area into an agricultural center by cultivating corn, beans, rice and other vegetables; hosting market meetings; providing transportation services between Denham Springs and Mobile; building homes; constructing churches;and establishing schools.""He also platted out townships including Bywater within these lands: Bolivar Township (1848), Lafayette Township (1849), Slidell Township (1850), Crowley Township (1851), St Tammany Parish (1852), Chalmette Parish - now Monroe County(1853), Jefferson Parish - now Terrebonne County(1854)," Hardwick said."Fenton's map shows that Bywater borders current day Hammondsville on its eastern side while Community Lake borders Bywater on its western side.""Captain Fenton also organized an Agricultural Society which provided seed money to farmers throughout Louisiana so they could plant crops," Hardwick continued."Many people considered him to be the father of agriculture in America because his innovations helped change how food was grown across Southern Louisiana.""After Fenton's death in 1860, control over this region passed through several hands before arriving at James Aiken who developed DENHAM SPRINGS as one of America's most important cotton ports during Reconstruction" according to historians Donnie Hardwick and Tom Beasley Jr.."Aiken founded JAXCOVE Shipyards here which manufactured various types of ships such as steamboats,, sailing ships,. During World War II JAXCOVE produced torpedoes for the NavyG". hardwick said ."Aiken also donated land around DENHAM SPRINGS which became Maple Hill Cemetery where many famous veterans are buried including former President George Washington CarverH", Beasley added.'"Aiken died here on October 15th 1944 after a long battle with leukemia.'" After Aken's death until 1948 den hamSprings functioned as an independent city under charter granted by then Governor Huey P Long before being annexed by New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina," Beasley explained.'DENHAM SPRINGS CITIZENS' identity changed upon annexation however when ordinances were passed imposing certain rules regulating nightlife activities such as any alcohol sales or barbecues inside city limits,' Beasley continued.'The Mayor is elected directly by residents rather than via referendum meaning that no outsider can control den HamSprings politics'.'

The Denham Springs post office was established in 1855. In 1865, General Edwin E. Grant called upon Captains Denham and Wm. Henson to lead a military expedition against Confederate forces at Fort Pickens in Mobile County, Alabama. The campaign resulted in the capture of that fort and the expulsion of the Confederate forces fromAlabama.
