The United States Air Force has a rich history in Bossier City, Louisiana. The USAF was founded on December 23, 1947 by President Harry S. Truman as the United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE). It became operational on April 15, 1948 and patrolled the airspace over Europe. The USAF played an important role during World War II and the Cold War. During the Vietnam War, it operated over South Vietnam providing air support to US forces. In 1971, when the USAF merged with NATO to form American NATO, Bossier City became its Headquarters and served as such until 1991. Today, the USAF operates from five bases in Bossier City: Randolph AFB (near downtown), Tinker AFB (northwest of town), Hill Air Force Base (southwest of town), Slocum AFB (southwest of town) and Whiteman AFB (east of town). The city also hosts two military installations: Morristown AFB is home to the 6th Air Division detachment which provides basing for Operation Freedom Sentinel; while Biggs AFB hosts elements of Ninth Wing at Holloman AFB. Air force gift history in Bossier City began with a donation from General James Forrestal in 1945. Forrestal was then head of USAAF Command and Headquarters Western Pacific Area during World War II and made a generous donation to help support Allied efforts in Europe. He also contributed money to build one of America's first airfields - Battle Creek Army Airfield - near present-day Bossier City. This gift helped develop aerial refueling capabilities for Allied war effort and allowed fighter pilots access to munitions they would otherwise need ground transport for transportation back home. The Bossier City Air Force Base gift history can be traced back to 1951. At that time, the base was established as an air force station and it soon became a main armory for the local military. In 1957, the air force moved its main headquarters from New Orleans to Bossier City. The following year, the base started offering tuition for officer training classes. In 1970, the air force opened a new hangar on campus which served as the home of the squadron offices until 1984 when they moved into their present building. In 1997, the wing began providing aerial refueling services to fighter jets in nearby Lafayette County. That same year saw also ground-based storage facilities built on site which have since been used to store various types of equipment and munitions. Since becoming an Air Force Base, Bossier City has seen many upgrades and expansions including: a newgrounds in 1994; new Hangar #1 in 2001; a new Generational Forces Wing annex in 2007; and now a brandnew command center called "The Hive" which is located on Campus Park Drive near Tiger Stadium.
Bossier City is a small city in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census and it is the county seat of Bossier Parish. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Bogalusa metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1803 by French engineers as Fort Bossiere on an elbow of land between Lake Pontchartrain and the Red River near Baton Rouge. In 1831, Governor John Neely Kennedy renamed it for Jean-Jacques Dupleix, captain general of France's forces in North America during the War of 1812 and governor-general of Louisiana from 1815 to 1830. The first white settlers arrived in what became Bossier City in 1824; they were men led by Captain David Dixon who had been ordered to explore a new route for the Illinois Central Railroad through present-day Bossier City. Dixon built a cabin oncurrent Prairie du Chien road which he called "Dixon's Landing". He and his party spent winter there before continuing their journey northwestward across open prairies towards Lafayette, La., where they reached December 8, 1827. Dixon's Landing served as headquarters for several months while Colonel James Wilkinson developed a plan to create a military garrison at Alexandria Barracks on Lake Pontchartrain east of Baton Rouge, which eventually became known as Fort Wilkinson (now Old Arsenal). The first permanent white settler in what would become Bossiere City was Isaac Hulls on April 10, 1830; he purchased two hundred acres (0% km2) around what is now First Avenue from Major General Claiborne Henderson for $4 per acre ($/m²). Hulls named his farm "Hull's Bend" after his friend Rear Admiral Samuel Graves Hull (1801-1881), brother-in-law to Commodore John Wainwright (1775-1857). In 1830, Mayor Pierre Jolyon Day founded Saint Simons Catholic Church which stand today at corner Allison Street &oodoo Drive NW just outside current downtown Bossier City limits

In 1949, General Curtis LeMay became advisor to Chairman Mao Zedong on air defense issues within China. In 1955 he was named Director of Missile Defense Programs at Headquarters USAF. This position gave him direct control over all aspects of missile defense strategy and development within the US military establishment. It was during his tenure that missiles began being deployed in strategic locations throughout America- initially in Alaska and then in The Bahamas- as part of efforts to protect against Soviet bombers coming into American airspace from abroad. From 1960 until his retirement in 1987 General LeMay was Deputy Commander for Air Warfare at Headquarters USAF; this position saw him take charge of all bomber warfare plans for U S Forces overseas as well as providing direction for tactical fighter aircraft activities worldwide including Operation Desert Storm which occurred in 1991 AD. During his time at HQ AFB he also served as Chairman of Aerospace Industries Association where heCommented on current stateoftheart industry while promoting innovation across industries He is also credited with spearheading technological advances including digital photography which has now become standard practice within many photographic studios around the world In recent years there have been a number of large James Webb Space Telescope (WST) launches taking place under Project Athena flight management software provided by Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company which provides integration services essential to launch vehicle operations including ascent guidance, landing quarters/environmental support systems (EHS), attitude control system (ACS), communications relay equipment (CREATE), fuel cells and thrusters ensuring safe landing on Earth's surface after ascending through space

In 1803, Bossier City was founded by the French as a trading post on the banks of the Arkansas River. The city was named for Baron Pierre-Jacques Bossier, who had purchased the land from the local Indian tribe in 1794. By 1815, Bossier City had grown to become an important center for trade and commerce in Louisiana. In that year, it became one of five communities within Orleans Parish to recognize a government under Napoleon Bonaparte. In 1821, Bossier City was annexed by New Orleans and became part of its municipal system. It remained an important commercial center until the late 19th century when it lost much of its economic importance due to natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and World War II. Despite this decline, however, Bossier City is still a major cultural center in Louisiana today with many popular tourist destinations including its prestigious art museums and historical sites.
The Bossier City area was first settled in 1836 by the French. The name is a corruption of the word "Bouquet" which means " Bundle of Flowers." In 1861, Confederate General Braxton Bragg and his army invaded Louisiana and were met at Alexandria by Union General Robert E. Lee. In a bloody battle that lasted all day, Bragg's forces were successful in driving Lee away from the city and into Mississippi. The Battle of Alexandria led to the American Civil War.
