The Air Force Gift History Museum in Bogalusa, Louisiana is the preserve of United States Air Force cultural artifacts from World War II and the Korean War. The museum was founded in 1978 by Brigadier General Floyd H. Weems with the mission to enhance understanding and appreciation for the history of airpower in America. The museum contains more than 2,000 items from American military forces during World War II and the Korean War. The collections include aircraft, tools, clothing, insignia, trophies and medals. Many of these items are on display or available for purchase. The museum also has a library which features air force books, movies and photos from around the world. The library is open Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm; Saturday 9am to 1pm; and Sunday 12pm to 4pm. In addition to its library services, the museum offers exhibits that focus on air power history topics such as Operation Crossroads (the Battle of Inchon), Aerial Fire Support during Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm/Operation Noble Eagle including an exhibit about fighter aircraft built at Bogalusa Airport during those times

The Bogalusa Air Force Base gift history begins with Lt. Col. Edwin W. Barkley (USAAF, Ret) in 1945 when he donated a number of items including an airplane and hangar to the base. In 1947, the Air Force commissioned a 1:1 scale replica of an F-86 Sabre fighter aircraft from North American Aviation, which was delivered to the base as part of a gift from Barkley. Additionally, in 1948, the Air Force gifted two P-51 Mustangs to Bogalusa AFB as gifts from Colonel John Hargrave (USAF). The Mustangs were used by the airmen for training and combat operations during World War II and became operational again in 1949 after being refurbished at Bogalusa AFB. From 1951 through 1960, Bogalusa AFB received a number of C-46 Commando transports as gifts from various individuals and organizations including General Electric Company, United Airlines Corporation and Pepsi Cola Company among others. In 1962, the Air Force bestowed upon Bogalusa AFB its first jet engine which came from McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company’s developmental programs for future fighters at Edwards AFB California. With this new acquisition, Bogalusa AFB would become one of only three USAF bases worldwide with jet engines! In 1966, Lockheed Martin Corporation provided the Army with 2 F-104 Starfighters as gifts from their subcontractor Lockheed Marvell Missile Division USA Incorporated and these aircraft served as both trainers and aerial refueling planes during Vietnam War era hostilities between America’s allies Great Britain and Indonesia while also providing support to US ground forces on numerous occasions! Finally in 1967 when it was decided that all active duty USAF fighter squadrons should be equipped with jets instead of piston engines due to fuel economy concerns after multiple crashes involving piston powered aircraft near military installations around the nation (!), Lt Col Edwin W Barkley was transferred unto commandofthe 1st Tactical Fighter Wing at Randolph AFB Texas which would later become known as "The Eagle" !
Bogalusa, Louisiana is a city in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 987 at the 2010 census. It is the namesake of Bogalusa Bayou and Bogalusa Parish. Bogalusa was founded by French colonists in 1718 as a fur trading post on the Atchafalaya River. The first settlement there was made by Pierre Le Moyne, Sieur de La Salle on the banks of the bayou that now bears his name. In 1802, American forces burned down part of La Salle's fortified settlement in what is now Bogalusa because he had failed to repay an invoice for goods he had purchased from Native Americans. The town sprang up as a result of Tecumseh's victory at Fordyce's Court House overstrate American efforts to take it from its British occupants during the War for Independence. By 1800, its population had reached 1,000 people and it boasted two churches and four stores. A courthouse and jail were built soon afterwards; but by 1824 only one church remained standing in town after all other buildings were destroyed by Hurricane Andrew*. In 1827, Governor John Caddo ordered Captain James Wilkinson to establish a ferry service across Bogalusa Bayou between Biloxi and New Orleans so that relief supplies could be brought into Mississippi during the Indian Removal Act of 1830* (see also: Louisiana Purchase). That same year saw another important event when General Robert Ewell invaded Mobile County seeking control of Alabama Territory* which included much parts of southern Mississippi* before being driven back northward by General Stono.* Aftermath: Many small hamlets clustered around military installations became known as "the Forks" because they served both Biloxi and New Orleans Ferry terminals; but most residents left after Anglo-native violence subsided *. After years of decline** many abandoned Hogarstown around 1840 when woodcutting began making available valuable timber near present-day Thibodaux * Bogueville replaced Hogarstown about 1850 when steamboats began running between Lafourcheport (now Baton Rouge) and New Orleans *. Growth resumed with investment following Civil War until longshoremen’s strikes† led to closure† in 1889 followed by World War I%. Redevelopment continued through World War II with large homes being built† including dozens along Lake Pontchartrain** culminating with Hurricane Katrina damage in 2005 which caused extensive flooding throughout eastern Jefferson Parish‡

In 1911, General John J. Pershing presented a two-seater pusher plane to Colonel Walter E. Rose at Fort Worth Army Air Field in Texas. This was the first airplane ever built by the United States military and it became known as the “Pusher Plane” because its designers designed it to be used as an attack aircraft against enemy forces during World War I. The planes that were given to generals during World War I were also often used in combat missions against other countries such as Russia and Japan. During this time period, airplanes were not just tools for soldiers; they were also symbols of America’s power and strength abroad. The planes that America produced during World War II were some of the most advanced and powerful machines ever made. They served in both campaigns against Germany and Japan and even played a role in winning the war! Bogalusa, Louisiana is a small town located in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. The population was 8,564 at the 2010 census. Bogalusa was founded on December 12, 1821 by Major General James Wilkinson and Captain John Butterfield as a post on the Chitimacha River. It became a town on February 17, 1834 when it was established as an independent parish. On July 4, 1896, Bogalusa incorporated as a city. In 1917-18, Bogalusa experienced a devastating flood that destroyed most of the downtown business districts and killed several people. The city has seen many changes over time including becoming an agricultural center during the early 1900s; experiencing development in the 1960s with the arrival of Interstate 10; experiencing decline in economic activity during the 1990s; and experiencing resurgence from 2000 to 2010. The current mayor is Billy Nolen with Mayor Pro Tem Stacey Abrams serving as acting mayor until he becomes elected to his first term in January 2013. Bogalusa is home to two universities: New Orleans Baptist University and Loyola Marymount University which are both private schools with sizeable student populations (New Orleans Baptist alone has over 30,000 students). There are also numerous small businesses and businesses near downtown that provide services such as restaurants and retail stores along I-10 which make it an attractive location for shopping or visiting friends or family members who live outside of town. One of the most significant aspects of Bogalusa's history is its role in being one of America's earliest major slave trading centers during the antebellum period. In addition to slave trade operations taking place here there were also other activities such as cattle raising and manufacturing that took place here throughout this time period. The present day riverfront area around Bogalusa was once part of what was known as "the swamp" which extended down into what is now Jefferson Parish before being drained by advancing levees in order to create more open land for agriculture during the mid 1800s. The swamp served dual purposes - providing cover for animals while also draining areas that supported large numbers of zebra deer, ibexes, lions, panthers/panthers (and other big cats), turtles etc... This led to one of America's largest animal massacres - between 1830-1840 - when up to sixty thousand buffalo were slaughtered by Ulysses S Grant's forces within three miles of Bogalus
