When the U.S. Air Force deployed its 1st Special Operations Wing in Bogalusa, Louisiana in support of Operation Neptune's Spear, much was expected of the small town.little did anyone know that the air force would leave behind a lasting legacy in the community. Beginning with World War II when the United States military stationed fighter bombers and reconnaissance aircraft in Louisiana, Bogalusa quickly became known as "The Home of The Flying Tigers" for their heroic fight against Japan during World War II. After the war, many veterans returned to Louisiana to start new lives, and as a result all of the old fighter planes were retired from service and stored away at Keesler Air Force Base. However, when Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans on August 29th 2005, everything changed - within minutes of landfall Katrina had destroyed most of downtown New Orleans and killed over 100 people including many local children playing near the levees that held back Lake Pontchartrain. As a result, many businesses closed down and there was little hope for reconstruction or redeveloping what had been lost so tragically. But something miraculous happened; within hours after landfall more than 200 toymakers from around America descended on Bogalusa to set up shop making new toys based off designs created by kids living in New Orleans just before Katrina hit. And so began what has become known as The Toy Factory Project - an annual event where toymakers from throughout America descend on Bogalusa to create new ideas for products to be distributed throughout Greater New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. In recent years there have also been events such as "Bogalusa B-Day" which celebrates how far Thingummy has come since it first opened its doors back in 2006 and "Toy night" which brings together toymakers from all over North America to share their latest creations with locals in attendance. All these events help keep things going strong for The Toy Factory Project - an unending source of inspiration for locals who live through difficult times

Kissel and First Lieutenant Matthew J. Davenport with the assistance of Airman 1st Class Jarrett H. Sheppard from Headquarters Squadron One Thirty-Nine (HS-1) at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.
Bogalusa, Louisiana is a small town in Jefferson Parish, located on the eastern bank of the Mississippi River. The population was 8,721 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie-Kenner Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Bogalusa were French explorers in 1699, who named it "Bogalusa". The town was platted in 1805 by entrepreneurs John Chouteau and James K. Polk and became a city in 1907. It is also known as "The Birthplace of Louisiana" because its original inhabitants were those who founded Baton Rouge and other SouthernLouisiana cities during the period from 1804 to 1837. In 1915 Bogalusa was designated an Historic District by the Louisiana State Legislature; it has since been re-designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Bogalusa's economy depends largely on agriculture which accounts for about 60% of its GDP and employs about 90% of its workforce; manufacturing makes up about 10% of GDP and employs about 5% of workforce; services make up 2%. Aftermath of the American Civil War caused significant destruction to Bogalusa and its churches and businesses. In the 1960s, Bogalusa experienced another period of growth as it became home to many students attending Tulane University in New Orleans. The town has since undergone several changes, most notably when it became a city in 1975. Recently, Bogalusa has seen an increase in development due to its location within the Trans-Mississippi Hurricane Catastrophe Zone.
