As Louisiana's most populous city and the economic center of the state, Baton Rouge has long been a hub for coffee culture. The area that now makes up Baton Rouge was first settled by French colonists in the 17th century, and coffee became an important part of their economy. In 1842, John Jacob Astor founded what is now Starbucks, in what is now downtown Baton Rouge. By 1920, Baton Rouge had become one of the leading coffee-producing areas in America. The early years of Baton Rouge's coffee industry were relatively peaceful. However, during World War II, Coffee beans were rationed and production slowed down. However, since Coffee was an agricultural product and not a profitable export item like other items such as gasoline or munitions, it bounced back quickly after the war. In 1949, Joseph Leshue founded Leshue Bros., which would become one of the country’s largest coffee companies. Today's Leshue Bros.' operations include more than sixty stores across America and twenty-five in Venezuela. In addition to its physical presence throughout America – from Tucson to Tulsa to Seattle – Baton Rouge has also played an important role online as a major node for coffee enthusiasts around the world. Beginning in 1984, Ristretto Coffee Centers (the predecessor company to Starbucks) began shipping beans direct from roasters all over North America directly to consumers' homes on CD-ROMs or tape cassettes (henceforth known as "Rochester Rochers"). This gave customers access to high-quality coffees at their convenience without having to go out into town and buy them at specialty stores like Journeysville or The Source

There are also bean-to-bottle brewers and espresso machines that allow you to make your own drinks without having to purchase anything. Some of the most popular artisan coffees include French press coffee, cortado, macchiato, cortadito, and vaporetto. Each type of coffee has its own unique flavor profile and strengths. You can also find flavored coffees like pumpkin spice or chai latte. Assembling a delicious array of artisan craft brews is easy with some common equipment: an espresso machine, pour over pot or Dutch oven, filter (or reusable) water pitcher, and measuring cups/spoons/cups!

As the popular saying goes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. That same philosophy may be true for coffee. For as long as humans have been drinking coffee, there has been an effort to improve and perfect the process of making it. In its earliest days, coffee was made from small plants that were grown in wild areas near where it is now consumed. The early beans were roasted by hand and then ground into a coarse paste. This paste was used to make teas and other beverages such as chai or blackstrap molasses. By the 16th century, however, machines had become available that could roast beans more accurately and quickly. As a result, coffee began to be exported around the world. In this time period also emerged some of the first great coffee entrepreneurs: James Robertson and Nicholas-Jacques Conte in Italy; John Maynard Keynes in England; Carlos Fusaro in Argentina; Rafael Videla in Chile; Antonio Moreno Morones in Peru; and José Valdivia Gomez in Bolivia). These menset out to improve and commercialize coffee so that it would become more widely consumed all over the world. The first great taste of espresso came about during this time period when Italian engineers cross-bred two types of beans – Arabica bean (the type used today) with Robusta bean – resulting in a higher quality product than either variety had ever before achieved. This new breed became known as Italian Roast Coffee (IRC), which still dominates today’s market share for espresso products around the world! The growth of espresso cafes across Europe soon followed suit, leading to increased demand for high quality coffees all over the continent! During this era too, some really groundbreaking innovation happened with regards to brewing methods: brewers started using smaller water reservoirs (known as “bouillons d”) instead of traditional large potbellied boilers which worked better with strong acids like tomatoes or vinegar but caused bitterness when combined with weaker coffees like arabica beans! This led to what we now know as “automatic drip machines” which allow you to directly control how much water is added directly into your cup while still providing a rich flavor profile! At this point though, things weren’t going quite according plan for IRC…err…coffee! It was only after many years of experimentation that they finally nailed down their brewing methodologies which allowed them create truly excellent roasts without any harsh acids or bitter flavors! And thus commenced what has come to be known as Modern Java Coffee enterprising souls who continue tweaking everything until they get something even better…and faster!!
The first artisan coffee was made by a French husband and wife team of monks in the early 16th century. The monks roasted their own beans, using only the finest Arabica coffee beans. This process continued through to the 18th century, when an Italian Jesuit priest named Francesco Dolcini started roast his own beans in his monastery in Rome. Dolcini's beans quickly became well-known throughout Europe and were exported to other parts of the world. By the mid-19th century, various Spanish Jesuits had opened similar monasteries throughout Spain, and began roasting their own coffee as well. In 1868, a Dutchman named Cornelis Kappelhof set up a small business called 'Kappelhof & Co.' in Rotterdam that traded in Ottoman Turkish coffee. He soon realized that he could not compete with the quality of European espresso shops selling Dolcini's beans directly from Italy or Spain, so he decided to start shipping his own brand of artisan coffee all across Europe under the name 'Kappelhof Kopf Coffee'. By World War II, many different types of high-quality espresso had become popular throughout Europe, and Kappelhof Kopf Coffee ceased production in 1945. However, its legacy continues today as one of the most preeminent names in artisan coffee – thanks to its beautiful café drinks served at some of Europe's most prestigious restaurants and cafes.
