Army gift history in Baton Rouge, Louisiana can be traced back to World War I. Sergeant John J. (Jack) Nicholson of the United States Marine Corps was born on December 8th, 1924 in Baton Rouge. Jack was drafted into the Marine Corps during World War II and after serving his time was discharged with the rank of Private First Class. He then served as a Corporal with the US Army until he joined up with the Marines again during the Korean War. After that service he left active duty to become a sergeant with The New Orleans Police Department where he remained for 27 years before retiring on May 1st, 1984. On July 14th, 1945 Jack married Deirdre (Dee) Malone in Baton Rouge and together they had two children; Tara and John-Paul Jr. In addition to his wife Diane and their three children, Jack also enjoyed spending time with his parents; their sister Gertrude and her husband Floyd; brother-in-law Donny McGuire and his wife Bonnie; nephews Rickie Leroy (Rick), Jaycee Lynn (Jaycee), Damien Wayne (Damien Wayne), Cyril Alvin Broussard III (Cyril Alvin Broussard IV), Reggie Alford “Reggie” Richardson (Reggie); niece Scout McGhee is also an officer in The New Orleans Police Department; cousins Claudine Chatillon (Claudine Chatillon), LaToya Keyate Marshall (LaToya Keyate Marshall)), Marsha Blackburn Nixon (); General James Earl Ray (); stepfather Arnold Newman (). In 1952 Jack met Margie Hinson who later became his wife. Margie was born October 9th, 1923 in Shreveport, Louisiana and raised in Baton Rouge She enlisted in the US Air Force when she was only 18 years old after high school graduation but was honorably discharged after less than two months because of tuberculosis she contracted while stationed at Selfridge Air Force Base near Detroit Michigan. When Margie returned home she started working at her grandmother's laundry business which continued until 1946 when Margie married Sgt John J.(Jack) Nicholson Sr., a United States Naval Officer from Lafayette Parish LA who served as Master Sergeant with The New Orleans Police Department from 1947 through 1951 when he retired due to retirement age requirements set by Navy regulations then being updated by Marine Regulations at that time . After marrying Margie Jack moved to Baton Rouge where he leased an apartment from Isadore Armstrong which became their home for over 40 years including 14 years living consecutively on St Charles Avenue . They were unable to find an appropriate place to live so they used their apartment until finally selling it in 2006 . In 2009 they moved into a new home on Broad Street located just west of downtown along Metairie Boulevard which will serve as their permanent residences . His first marriage ended after 3 kids while he still had military service left him so now has 2 wives & 4 kids!
