The National Guard of the United States of America is a service organization that provides military support to the government of the United States. The National Guard was first organized on July 4, 1775, when Continental Army soldiers refused to disband following their victory over the British at Saratoga. The militia functioned as an auxiliary arm of the army until 1783, when George Washington ordered all militias disbanded because they were not large enough to provide effective security for the country. On October 25, 1861, President Abraham Lincoln called for a state militia in Louisiana to protect New Orleans from Confederate forces under General Robert E. Lee. On December 8th, 1861, Congress created and funded the Louisiana National Guard with $5 million in funding. The organization was composed of white men from three southern states who had seceded from the Union and formed a new country - Confederate France - and black men from those same states who opposed secession. On January 1st 1862, Brigadier General Winfield Scott appointed Lieutenant Colonel John C.[lesson] commandant of the Louisiana National Guard and ordered him to raise 10 companies of infantry and 2 batteries of artillery within 24 hours so that he could take advantage of available manpower in order to maintain public order during Bloody Sunday in Baton Rouge. One week later on February 14th 1862, Captain Samuel Gregg led a detachment numbering 37 mounted troopers into Baton Rouge against orders by Lt Col Chapman which resulted in Gregg being killed along with 5 other troopers at what became known as "the Battle of Baton Rouge". This event symbolized control by one man over an entire population (a situation which would continue through Reconstruction). In 1865, General J[ohn] A[lbert] H[enry] S[tuart], commanding generalof Florida's Florida National Guards Volunteers announced plans for a nationwide Red Flag Campaign across all slaveholding states including Louisiana should Unionists try to re-establish slavery there. In response Governor Claiborne accepted responsibility for red flagslisted throughout his state should these efforts prove successful; however this did nothing more than postpone action while Confederates tried unsuccessfully to set up shop in New Orleans prior to Johnson's surrender at Appomattox Court House on April 9th 1865 meaning that any attempt at slave recovery would have been unsuccessful regardless of whether or not flags were raised elsewhere statewide effectively ending Reconstruction in Texas also resulting in Poe being sworn out as president without any Black representation

The Gillmore Act designated the Third Infantry Division as Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion as responsible for all activities within Abbeville, La., except those related to military training or operations.
Abbeville is a city in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 8,354 at the 2010 census. It is the seat ofJefferson Parish. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Abbeville were the Musketeers, who founded a trading post there in 1718. The town was named for Father Jacques Marquette, who explored and mapped the Illinois River Valley in 1779-1780. Abbeville became a parish in 1806. It commercially grew after being selected as an "open market" community by then-Governor Francis Lecompton on May 5, 1872. By 1900 it had 9 cotton plantations and 1 sugar plantation; its two main thoroughfares were known as Jackson and Franklin Avenues; 19 small businesses dotted Jackson Avenue; 25 residential buildings occupied acres near what is now Interstate 10/Upper Mississippi River Boulevard; 50% of the people living here spoke French before Americanization began; most of these descendants still speak that language today. In World War II, local men formed one of America's largest wartime industries with production of munitions including oil refining and airplane parts. After the war many companies left town such as Alcoa (closed down), American Cyanamid (closed down), Phelps Dodge (closed down) and US Steel ( closed down). Today much of downtown business activity revolves around services provided by nearby companies like FedEx and UPS which have large outposts on Jackson Avenue or larger campuses located just outside town limits on Highway 10/Upper Mississippi River Boulevard
The National Guard has a rich history that goes back to the Revolutionary War. The first national guard units were raised in 1775 during the American Revolution, and served as a militia force until the mid-19th century. In 1821, President James K. Polk established the National Guard as an arm of the military to provide quality unit leadership and training for soldiers who would serve in times of peace or war. The Militia Act of 1862 created all volunteer national guard units at state level, and these Guardsmen played a critical role in suppressing slavery throughout most of America during the 1860s. However, there was one significant exception: Confederate forces invaded America on April 12, 1861, resulting in over 100,000 army reservists being called up to fight for their masters. This mass mobilization led to some controversy over whether or not the Guards should be placed under military command – eventually they were given full military status on April 14th under General Ulysses S. Grant’s authority. Since its inception, the National Guard has undergone many changes both within and outside of America. During World War II, it was estimated that between 1 million and 2 million men served in various theater commands; however, only 350 officers and 5200 enlisted men received decorations related to service with the National Guard (the majority were awarded medals for bravery). After World War II ended, many Americans decided that other forms of defense such as nuclear weapons or air superiority required more manpower than could be drawn from militias available when hostilities broke out again in Korea or Vietnam. As result, by 1970 there were only about 10500 Guardsmen remaining across all 50 states active duty; this number slowly increased through affirmative action programs dating back to 1966 when Congress passed legislation authorizing state governors to call up guardsmen “in case of any emergency which may arise from natural disasters or any other cause beyond our present control” (Petersen 1986). Today there are over 140 thousand guardsmen serving across America – making it one of Americas most mobilized militaries!

Abbeville is a town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 8,873 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie metropolitan area. The first settlements in what is now Abbeville were made by French colonists in the 17th century. By 1800, there were over 100 families living in what would become Abbeville. In 1802, General Pierre Laclède built Fort Chartres on a bluff overlooking the town to protect it from British forces during the Napoleonic Wars. The fort was abandoned after Napoleon's defeat and the town grew rapidly for several decades until a severe drought destroyed much of the local corn crop in 1814-1815 and forced most of its inhabitants to leave for lack of food. In 1824, Abbeville became one of eight parishes within New Orleans County when it was created from parts of Saint Bernard Parish and Plaquemines Parish. The parish seat moved from Algiers to Abbeville in 1830 and remained there until 1958 when it moved to New Orleans City proper. In 1824, John Crain purchased 1/4 acre (0.20 km²) out of what is now downtownAbbeville for $5 per annum from James Bowles who had bought 3/4 acre (1 hectare) adjoining land two years earlier from Nicholas Bourgeois de laFleuriere; this parcel formed today's North side of Post Street east of I-10 exit 164A which leads into Downtown New Orleans John Crain also founded Anheuser Busch Brewery here in 1828 with his brother Isaac Anheuser Jr.. This brewery continues as one of America's leading brewing companies to this day with more than 120 brands registered In 1840s & 1850s water-powered sawmills were erected along Post Road just southwest corner intersection with Broadwalk where present day I-10 Exit #164A meets US Highway 90 . These mills produced high quality lumber which still remains available today
The town of Abbeville, Louisiana was founded in 1806 by the fathers of the Catholic Church. The town became an important center for trade and commerce due to its location on the Mississippi River. In 1821, the first public school was opened in Abbeville. In 1852, a courthouse and jail were built in Abbeville. The town grew rapidly during the antebellum period and by 1870 it had a population of over 7,000 people. In 1865, Confederate General Robert E. Lee's army invaded Louisiana and began their campaign against the Union forces. During this time, many residents of Abbeville sided with the Confederacy and some even surrendered their homes to help defend their city from attack. After Confederate General Beauregard's surrender at Appomattox Court House on April 9th 1865, all but one hundred residents of Abbeville fled to Arkansas or Missouri because they were not allowed back into Louisiana under United States law following the war.
