The town of St. Matthews, Kentucky is located in the eastern portion of the U.S. state of Kentucky and straddles the border with Tennessee. It was founded by Scots-Irish pioneers in 1814 and became a community of white settlers after the American Civil War ended in 1865. The population of St. Matthews decreased during the 21st century as a result of suburbanization, but it remains one of the most populous towns in southern Kentucky. St. Matthews was originally named Caldwell after General James Caldwell, who had been appointed to command a brigade in the Union army during the war. The town was incorporated on November 16, 1814, by order of then-Governor John Sevier III. At that time, only residents of Knox County were allowed to vote for municipal officials; all other citizens were represented through representatives from local militias or county courts). In 1824, two brothers named Alexander and David Gillespie purchased 1/4 mile (0.8 km) east of present day St Matthews from Andrew Jackson for $3500 (). They began to build what would become known as Gillespie House () on this land which they donated to the townspeople for use as a public square and schoolhouse (). In 1830, Alexander Gillespie died suddenly and his widow married Major George Ransom (), who became one of St Matthews' first postmasters (). After her husband's death in 1835, Mrs Ransom continued to serve as postmaster until her death in 1862 (). During Reconstruction (1865-1877), many African Americans worked as field hands or domestics within white households throughout much OFSTED area including St Matthews; however most black people remained tenant farmers or laborers until after World War II when their rights were restored by federal law.. A number of businesses opened up around town during this time such as C&H Mercantile & Lumber Company (), First National Bank (), undertaker John Hogg (), bed & breakfasts (& restaurants), Drury's Pharmacy (), etc.; however these businesses closed during prohibition (1907-1920). However some important landmarks which remain today include Gillespie House () and Anthony Baptist Church (). Blacks also played an important role within government service such as serving on juries (); working at local factories (); owning homes ; and even serving jail terms following Reconstruction.(e., Edwin Ramsey) For many years prior to 1990s almost all jobs available were related to agriculture; however now there are several high paying positions available including marketing research assistantships at universities

Small batch coffee history begins with the first small-batch coffee roasters in the early 1900s. These startups were often started by entrepreneurs who wanted to create their own version of a classic cup of joe. In fact, one of the earliest small-batch coffee businesses was founded by two friends, Bob Fritsch and Don Freeman, in San Francisco in 1912. The pair began brewing their own espresso and coffee beans on their kitchen stove. Over time, small-batch coffee became an increasingly popular genre of beverage because it offered a more personalized experience than mass-produced products. This was especially true in countries like Italy and Japan where artisanal methods were prized for their unique flavor profile. Today, there are countless small-batch coffee brands around the world that offer unique flavors and experiences that can’t be found elsewhere.

Small batch coffee was first created in 1975 by Bob's Coffee located in Boulder, Colorado. The first small batch coffee was made from 100% Arabica beans and it featured a light body and mild flavor.

The name “St. Matthews” is derived from the Irish Saint Máel Coluim, who was martyred in 753 AD. The town was founded by the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1820, and became a coal mining center during the 19th century. In 1925, St. Matthews became an independent city after it seceded from Kentucky. The city has experienced significant growth since then, including the establishment of its own university in 2004 and a major redevelopment project that began in 2010. Today, St. Matthews is a vibrant community with a growing economy and diverse cultural attractions.

In 1802, the first Baptist church in Kentucky was built on what is now St. Matthews Avenue in Lexington. The congregation started meeting there in 1809 and soon became known as "The Baptists of Kentucky." In 1826, the church moved to its present location on Williamson Street in Lexington. In 1875, the Baptist Convention of Kentucky founded another Baptist church on Maple Street in Louisville.
