The national guard in St. Matthews, Kentucky was first organized on December 12, 1861. It was not until May 9, 1865 that the first National Guard unit was activated at the Lexington Armory. The regiment served for three years and participated in many battles such as Antietam and Wilderness. After three years of service, the regiment was disbanded on July 1, 1867. However, it reorganized again a few months later and became part of the Kentucky militia on October 15th. The regiment served for another four years before being disbanded once again on November 21st of 1871. After disbanding the first time, the national guard in St. Matthews reformed a few more times over the next few decades until it finally went out of business on October 14th of 1897 due to lack of funds and manpower. However, it did not completely go away; various groups still use military formations called "the national guard" today in different parts of America

St. Matthews, Kentucky is a small town in the middle of nowhere that has been around for over a century. The population was only 1,500 when it was founded in 1872, but by 2010 it had increased to over 10,000. St. Matthews was originally named after the Apostle James (died in Rome) and it is believed that he landed here on horseback on November 12th, 1807 while preaching to the Indians. After his death, his body was brought back to this area and buried here along with many other saints who helped spread Christianity throughout Ireland during the 1800s. In 1951, St. Matthews became an international Catholic pilgrimage site and since then has attracted people from all over the world! The church here features beautiful traditional Irish architecture and paintings dating back to the 16th century. The National Guard is an organized militia of the United States. It was created on July 1, 1792 as a result of the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, which states "A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, shall not be infringed." The first national guard units were raised in New York and Rhode Island in 1793. In 1813, Massachusetts established a regiment called The Patriot Guards. These units served in various capacities until 1861 when they were disbanded because of their connection with the Confederate States of America. In 1862, Congress created two new regiments: one called The Old Guard (later renamed The Virginian) and another called The Ohio Volunteers (later renamed The Western Reserve). These units served inuntitled roles until 1865 when they were again disbanded because of their Confederate connections. On July 2nd, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed into law Public Law No. 725 which provided for the formation or activation at any time by proclamation of a National Guard unit from any state where such unit could be activated without prior notice to either house of Congress or governor thereof; this act also authorized military training for members and officers belonging to said National Guard units should there be occasion for service during World War I. On November 15th 1917 President Wilson issued Proclamation No. 924 calling all patriotic citizens together throughout America urging them to form organizations preparatory thereto and make arms available at home so that 'the American People may repel invasions' In 1920 these activities were combined under one name - Defense Department Protective Force - becoming known as Army National Guards after Act Separate Title 41 became effective on October 8th 1930 authorizes Army National Guardsmen serving overseas

The town has also experienced some interesting changes over the years. In 1955, when Interstate 65 was completed traveling through central Kentucky, St. Matthews became one of only two communities in Kentucky ever connected by road with neighboring Louisville (the other being Bardstown). Since then, there have been several attempts at revitalizing the downtown area – including efforts by local officials to get federal money to help improve infrastructure – but no real progress has been made since 2005.
St. Matthews was founded in 1795 by the Reverend John Wesley, and is the oldest city in Kentucky. The population was about 12,000 at its peak, but has dropped to around 7,000 today. The economy of St. Matthews is primarily agricultural, with a focus on corn and soybeans.
