At that time, coffee was known as a luxury item and only been enjoyed by the wealthiest citizens. However, over time, people have started to appreciate the taste of quality coffee and began to bring it home from their businesses. In the 1920s, Angelo's Coffee Shop became one of the earliest roasters in town and continued to serve up delicious beans until 2001. Throughout the years, other businesses have arisen and disappeared which has led to some great Gourmet Coffee traditions in St. Matthews! The first modern espresso machine was introduced in 1978 and since then, many talented individuals have worked at cafes all over town giving customers a wide variety of beans to choose from. Today, there are several amazing cafes located throughout town that offer an excellent cup of coffee with every visit!

Gourmet coffee has been a part of the St. Matthews community for many years. In 1916, Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Smith founded the first Gourmet Coffee shop in what is now known as The Bluegrass Café on Main Street in St. Matthews. The store was a popular stop for locals and visitors alike to purchase their favorite coffee beans, roasted by Mr. Smith himself. In the early 1920s, Gourmet Coffee became a well-known local business in St. Matthews with its own roastery and café located on Third Street between High and Low Streets. In 1924, Gourmet Coffee moved to its current location at 309 S Lexington Ave., becoming one of the most respected and popular commercial businesses in town! Over the years, Gourmet Coffee has continued to provide quality coffee services to residents of St. Matthews through its own roastery and café as well as partner with other locally based businesses to offer unique products and experiences not found anywhere else!

St. Matthews, Kentucky is a small town located in the Appalachian Mountains of western Kentucky. The population was 4,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lexington metropolitan area. The village was founded by Methodists in 1814 and named for Saint Matthews, an early Christian missionary in what is now western Kentucky. The first Baptist church service was held on December 12, 1821, and St. Matthews became a town on February 5, 1832. The manufacturing industry has been important in St. Matthews’ economy since its founding; today it employs about sixty people. While much of the village’s architecture and infrastructure date from before World War II, some new buildings have been constructed recently including a high school and library complex which opened in 2006 and houses both public and private libraries as well as a theater district that includes two professional theaters (the Bluegrass Playhouse and Main Street Theatre). A number of festivals are also celebrated throughout the year: Christmas season with various events around the village center; Fourth of July celebrations with fireworks displays down Main Street; Easter weekend with religious services, agricultural fairs and annual carnival; Independence Day Celebration featuring concerts by local bandshell groups as well as parade through downtown streets lined with holiday lights.; Token Days - during each month of May - when all residents receive free tokens to redeem at local businesses for discounts or other special offers

When coffee became popular in the early 1800s, it was a product of Africa. The Dutchman Johannes Gutenberg invented movable type printing in 1455 and introduced movable type printing to Europe in 1476. Coffee became popularized with this technology after he published a book about it, The Book of Knowledge on Alcohol (1541). Coffee spread throughout Europe and America because it could be brewed at home and then transported easily. Coffee started being shipped to North America by sea in the late 15th century. Columbus discovered America while aboard his ship, La Niña, and brought plants back with him to Spain. This led to coffee becoming popular throughout Europe as people began importating more resources from America. By 1611, Spanish settlers had planted more than two thousand acres of coffee trees along the Delaware River Valley. In 1795, French forces invaded Pennsylvania during the American Revolutionary War and destroyed many of these plantations including those run by John Sullivan and Nicholas-Jacques Conte. Coffee became an important part of the war effort because it was used to make munitions and provide drinking water for troops. Afterward, many Americans grew interested in growing their own coffee because they found that pre-packaged Java Pod coffees were too expensive or not good enough quality. In 1805, Boston Tea Party participants drank tea made from roasted ground beans from New England farms instead of using British manufactured tea

There is no one definitive history of gourmet coffee, but there are some key points to consider. First, coffee was first roasted and brewed in small batches in the Middle East and Africa for local nobility and religious leaders. After being brought to Europe by Portuguese traders in the 16th century, coffee became popular among European consumers as well. Coffee also started to be exported to other parts of the world, starting with Japan in the late 18th century. The Dutch introduced espresso machines into their coffeehouses in the 17th century, which allowed them to roast larger quantities of beans and produce a more complex flavor profile than earlier Europeans. In 1886, Italian espresso maker Giovanni Negromonte created what is considered the first modern steamed milk drink – roccatore (Rocca-tore). This high-quality espresso machine used water heated at a very low temperature (98°F/43°C) and then cooled quickly so that it produced a rich creamy milk beverage.

In 1775, the people of Kentucky voted to become a United States state. The area that now includes Kentucky was part of Virginia until 1776 when it became a part of the new nation. In 1783, the Congress passed the Acts for Establishing a Constitution of the United States and elected George Washington as its President. In 1815, James K. Polk was elected president and in 1829 he designated Mount Vernon as the national capital. On Christmas night in 1836, St. Matthews Parish was established in what is now eastern Kentucky with a population of only 153 residents. The first pastor at St. Matthews Parish was Father Ignatius Donnelly and from 1840 to 1862 Reverend John Cavanaugh served as pastor. Father Donnelly also built one of America’s first churches,Methodist Episcopal Church on Main Street which still stands today (1862).On November 5th, 1907, St. Matthews parish had its 1,000th resident when Mrs Alberta Jourdain disembarked her ship in Paducah harbor after being deported from New Orleans while working as an American woman cook aboard the USS Constitution during World War I. The parish experienced some significant changes during World War II with increased population growth due to military enlistment and production quotas set by federal planners; however all other things remained relatively stable until 1960 when Bishop Edward Whelan courageously announced plans to demolish all but two homes on his parochial property so that land could be used for parking lot expansion purposes; this led to years-long public outcry culminating in finally successful restoration and renovation of these homes beginning in 1984! This event helped solidify St Matthews Parish’s role as one of eastern Kentucky’s most important community organizations currentlyserving over 7600 residents!

The first settlement in this area was made by the Lapidus family on a plantation called "Fords Landing" about 1785. The town of St. Matthews was named for the Rev. John Matthews, who arrived in 1792 to preach at what is now Louisville. In 1814, when Kentucky became a state, the town land was bought from the Lapidus family and renamed Kylesville.
