The Bainbridge was a member of the Navy's first squadron, which sailed to Hampton Roads in 1917. The ship was decommissioned in 1941 and used as a training vessel until she was sold to the Somerset County Historical Society in 1951. The USS Constitution Museum has a collection of over 1,500 artifacts from across the United States Naval Service. Included are uniforms, equipment, books, mementos and more. Many of these items were donated by sailors or their families during their time on board the Constitution. One item that is particularly significant is an enlisted men's bridal dress from 1898. This dress has been described as "the best surviving example of American national civil wedding dress." It is now display at the Museum along with other historical artifacts from this period. Somerset, Kentucky is a town in and the county seat of Somerset County, Kentucky. The population was 9,715 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lexington–Fayette–Greenville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town has a history that goes back to 1798 when it was named for Colonel John Somerset, an officer in the Continental Army and member of the Board of Trustees for Yale University. As a result of its location on the Cumberland River, Somerset became known as "The Gateway to the Appalachian Mountains." As one of only two U.S. towns located on both sides of an international border (the other being Brownsville, Texas), it has been a bridgehead for many cross-border smuggling operations over the years. One such operation involved individuals from Mexico trafficking heroin into America through Somerset and other nearby towns during Operation Fast & Furious in 2013-14. Today, much like then, Somerset is home to many businesses and families who make their living outside of city limits; this diversity is what makes it so unique as well as its place within historical context that makes it a destination for people from around the world looking to experience some aspects of American culture firsthand.

Somerset, Kentucky is a small town in the western portion of the state of Kentucky. The population was 7,574 at the 2010 census. Somerset was founded in 1821 by General James Wilkinson and his brother-in-law, Colonel John Forbes. It is located on the Cumberland River. The town's first post office was established in 1826. In 1830, it became the county seat of Woodford County. In 1840, Somerset incorporated as a city and adopted a new constitution that year. The city lost its charter in 1851 because there wasn't enough support to vote for it. The city reincorporated as a town in 1857 and again gained its charter in 1865. In 1870, Somerset had two newspapers: "The Courier" and "The Sentinel". In 1916, when La Follette ran for president, he visited Somerset and gave two speeches there before returning to Milwaukee on October 8th; this event is generally considered to be the beginning of his political career. La Follette would later win election as Ulysses S Grant's Vice President after being born in Somerset and moving to nearby Louisville at age six years old
Somerset was founded in 1785 by Captain John Somerset and his wife Betsy. The town is named for Sir George Somers, 1st Baronet, who landed on the Kentucky frontier in 1778. The settlers were granted land by the British government and began to build homes in what is now Somerset County. In 1801, Captain John Somerset died and was buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in nearby Lebanon. The town continued to grow until the early 1800s when it became a farming community with few buildings other than barns and homes. By the late 1800s, many of the pioneer families had passed away or moved away, leaving their memories behind in the small town. In 1919, Colonel Harold Ives bought all of present-day Somerset County from a group of farmers for $160 dollars. Ives made it his home until his death in 1984. He left someilts that remain as part of the town's history including a replica courthouse from 1892 and an old schoolhouse which has been converted into a museum. Today, Somerset remains an agricultural community with few buildings other than churches and schools - making it one of Kentucky's most rural towns!
