Shelbyville is a town in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 9,821 at the 2010 census. It is the sixth-largest community in Pike County. The downtown area includes the current courthouse and a number of other buildings dating from the late 1800s. Shelbyville is one of two towns in Pike County that are both named after General Andrew Jackson The first settlers in what is now Shelbyville were white farmers who arrived around 1790. They started small and soon moved to larger land grants and developed into a cattle drive country trade with surrounding states. By 1822, they had founded their own school district. In 1827, they voted to become part of the Louisville City School District. During the Civil War, Shelbyville sided with Confederate forces and was destroyed by Union forces during battle on July 8th 1861 while supplies were being delivered to Confederate troops at Smith's Grove outside of town. At least five homes were burned down as well as a store and many barns and outbuildings within town limits – all evidence that Union forces did significant damage during this engagement which took place less than three miles from where today’s downtown stands

Shelbyville is a small town located in Butler County, Kentucky. The population was 1,569 at the 2000 census. The first settler in Shelbyville was Hiram Hinton in 1811. A post office called Shelbyville was established in 1829, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1830, John Witherspoon of Knox County began farming here and named his farm "Shelbyville." In 1836, General Andrew Jackson made an appearance here during the Second Seminole War when he stopped at the village for dinner. After the war ended, Jackson visited again and gave a speech to a crowd of citizens before returning to Tennessee. The town grew rapidly after this visit and by 1840 had a population of 3105 people. In 1845-1846, General Josiah Haywood fought against Custer's Army near here and many members of his regiment were killed or so badly wounded that they were unable to continue their service with the army. By 1850, there were over 6300 people living in Shelbyville. During the early 1800s there were no schools within Shelbyville proper; however, several local farms did provide education for their children through various forms of correspondence courses or teaching methods such as home schooling methods which continued until about 1880 when school systems became statewide standardised throughout America. The first store on Main Street opened its doors on December 14th, 1854 as "The Republican".
