The United States Navy has a long and colorful history in Shelbyville, Kentucky. The Naval Station Lexington was established in 1898 and has been home to the U.S. Navy since that time. The current Navy Annex on West Main Street was built in 1942 as part of the expansion of the military complex in Lexington. Naval Station Lexington played an important role during World War II, providing munitions storage, shipbuilding and other support services to the war effort. After the war, NAS Lexington transitioned into a naval headquarters and training facility, serving both American sailors and international warships throughout the Cold War period. In 1982, NAS Lexington was renamed Naval Station Louisville after Rear Admiral James "Jock" Wohlstetter, who had served as commanding officer of USS Louisville (CVA-38) during World War II and thereafter served as Commanding Officer at NAS Norfolk (CG-1). Today NAS Louisville serves as one of two primary naval stations for Western Kentucky Regional Command responsible for activities around downtown Bowling Green, Hopkinsville/Ft Campbell and Cincinnati/Northern Indiana area. While there are many other branches of service located at NAS Louisville, it is still home to one of America's largest nuclear submarines - USS Indianapolis (LPH-4), which arrived here in 1988 from Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock Co., Virginia Beach, VA – making it one of only a few navies worldwide with such a platform!

Shelbyville is a small town in Marshall County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville–Jefferson County metropolitan area. Shelbyville is one of seven towns in Marshall County that were established by the Kentucky General Assembly in 1792 as a result of the " county convention" system which merged many smaller counties into the new state. The original nine towns were: Bloomington, Concordia, Danville, Florence, Greencastle, Immokalee, Knoxville and Paducah. The first settler in Shelbyville was John Brown who arrived there on July 12th 1792. In 1837 John Henson erected a frame house on what is now Main Street and built a two-story log schoolhouse also known as "Henson's School". The first people to live in Shelbyville were the Shawnees who built a trading post there in 1814. In 1820, General David Harriman and his army invaded Kentucky and found evidence that Native Americans had been living in Shelbyville for many years. This caused a great deal of commotion in the community as most residents were Indian-owned slaves who did not want to be associated with what they saw as an invading force. With no other option available to them, some of the Indians decided to move out of Shelbyville and into nearby Waverly on October 8, 1820.
In 1824, John Fenton established a distillery in Shelbyville which became one of the largest whiskey production centers in America. For many years this place was known as "the whisky capital of the world." After Fenton's death in 1830, his son James took over running the distillery and continued producing high-quality whiskey until his death in 1865.
In 1850, Abraham Lincoln attended a picnic organized by George Tilton at Clear Fork Lake near present day Louisville while he was campaigning for office; it is said that he ate from an apple orchard next to Tilton's house and remarked on how sweet and delicious these apples looked. Shortly after this event occurred, Tilton bought about 100 acres (40 ha) adjacent to Clear Fork Lake from David Dickson for $1 million dollars cash plus 10% interest per year until 2022! This property became known as Lincoln Park today due to its connection with President Ulysses S Grant through this transaction.
In 1865, when Confederate General Robert Ewell arrived at Lexington Airport with 3 thousand men intending on invading Louisville during Union general Jubal Early's campaign against them – but also seeking supplies – General James Hutton ordered all liquor stores within five miles (8 km) of Lexington closed down because "Hutton knew that if Lee got control of any part of this country our enemies would have access to large quantities both alcoholic and military supplies." Most local farmers refused compliance with Hutton's orders; however several storekeepers managed to smuggle goods into Lexington under cover of darkness before being caught by Union forces later that night."The Unforgettable Battle: Rebel Attack on Louisville" After Confederate troops burned all but two buildings within downtown Lexington during their retreat from town on April 12–13th 1865,[4] Hutton reopened just one store – located three blocks north of where he'd closed down earlier that same day – named "General Store No 2". However now run by Jordon Nixon it still produces high quality bourbon products such as Elijah Craig bourbon Whiskey. Some historians believe that sales at GSB No 2 may have totaled more than $100 million dollars during its time span! In 1912 president Taft founded cedar Point Steel Pier Company Limited which imported raw steel ore from Canada for use by shipbuilders throughout the country including those at Cedar Point Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co., Inc.. The company went bankrupt due largely to tight competition from American manufacturers following World War I. One hundred years later Cedar Point Steel Pier Company Limited still survives making beautiful steel plaques for restaurants all over North America!
The Shelbyville, Kentucky community of Shelbyville was settled in 1802 by Jonathan Shelby and his wife Nancy. The first home on the site was a log cabin built by Jonathan and his wife. A grist mill was built in 1805, and a sawmill in 1811. In 1830, the first school in Shelbyville was established. The townspeople voted to incorporate as a village in 1853. The post office operated from 1853 to 1865. In 1865, the population of Shelbyville peaked at 1,500 people and declined after that point until it reached its current low of 100 residents in 1990.
