The United States Air Force is one of the most prevalent and respected organizations in America. It is an institution with a rich history, dating back to World War II. The USAF has been responsible for providing air support to both American troops and civilians throughout the course of history. In Richmond, Kentucky, the USAF operates two bases - Norton-Smith AFB and Whitcomb AFB - which together house more than 7,000 military and civilian personnel. One of the most significant aspects of USAF history in Lexington County is its relationship with the City of Richmond. This was particularly true during the Korean War, when Norton-Smith AFB was used as a strategic base by Seoul in order to protect their city from possible North Korean attack. In addition, during the Vietnam War, Whitcomb AFB played an important role in supporting US forces fighting against Vietnamese insurgents. Today, Norton-Smith AFB continues to serve as a major hub for operations within the USAF while Whitcomb AFB functions as a primary research facility for aviation technology companies across Eastern Kentucky. In recent years, Air Force gift histories have become increasingly popular among individuals and groups within Lexington County. These histories can be traced back to 1978 when then-Mayor James Muhlenberg announced that he would start collecting donations from local businesses in order to help finance new projects at Norton-Smith AFB. Over time, this tradition has continued with each Mayor’s proclamation awarding funds directly to various military or philanthropic causes – such as helping feed soldiers on deployment or donating resources towards cancer research. This year marks the 25th anniversary of Mayor Muhlenberg’s initiative and it seems likely that this trend will continue into future years!

Richmond, Kentucky is a city in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the seat of Richmond County. The population was 381,541 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville–Jeffersonville–Anderson, KY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The history of Richmond dates back to 1792 when it was part of the old French territory of Louisiana. In 1801, it became a U.S. town after being accepted as part of Ohio Territory following the Louisiana Purchase from France. On July 4, 1806, Richmond was incorporated as a city by an act of the General Assembly under the name "Emmettstown." After Virginia's secession from the Union on April 12, 1861 and until November 14th that year, Richmond remained within Confederate hands; however upon Jefferson Davis' proclamation that all southern states had seceded and were henceforth considered "a new nation," Richmond joined Union forces and helped retake Lexington on October 13th 1861. The Battle for Petersburg occurred on December 15th 1861 and resulted in death or capture for many Confederate soldiers including General Robert E Lee Aftermath: On January 25th 1865 local residents celebrate as Rebel General Joseph Johnston is captured at Appomattox Court House where he has been confined since late April 1865

Richmond, Kentucky is a small town in the U.S. state of Kentucky that is home to the University of Richmond and other notable institutions of higher education. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census, making it the third-most populous municipality inKentucky after Frankfort and Louisville. According to the 2013 estimate by The Kynect Foundation, Richmond has a median household income of $68,542 and a median family income of $85,512. The largest minority group is African American with 12% of its population; Asian Americans make up 6%, Hispanics 7%, and whites 3%. The earliest inhabitant in what is now Richmond was Native American chiefdom known as the Shawnee Nation. A white settler by the name of James Robertson established himself there in 1792 as an early trader and landowner. He named his new community "Richmond" after his hometown in Scotland – one year before England had become a part of Queen's America under George Washington. In 1801, John Beal bought 1/4 acre (0.18 km2) from Robertson for $10 and founded Beal's Inn on this site which he named "Birmingham". By 1820, alluvial deposits led to extensive farming around present-day Petersburg (now Portsmouth), including much corn production for export to England during the 19th century boom years following Britain's defeat in its war with France (the Napoleonic Wars). In 1827, Englishman John Crouch bought two-thirds interest in Beal's Inn from Balthazar Livingston; Crouch renamed it "Richmond." In 1870–71 Robert Eanes built a Gothic Revival styled courthouse on Main Street just south ofpresent-day South Park Drive; this structure served as both seatof government for Richmond until 1907 when it moved to Frankfort due to financial difficulties caused by railroad construction nearby. During World War II many workers came throughRichmond on wartime military bases such as Fort Knox (later Fort Donelson) or Monterrey Army Ammunition Plant before returning home once hostilities ended; these people are generally called "Veterans." Many businesses still operate today that were founded during or shortly afterwards the war: Jack Daniels Distillery & Grill opened its doors in 1945 and later became one of Jackson County’s largest employers with over 100 employees.; Ponds Restaurant reopened after being closed for 43 years.; Old Dominion Bakery started out as an IGA store but soon became one of east central Kentucky’s leading bakery chains., KFC began serving breakfast here starting out small but quickly growing into one of Eastern Kentucky’s most successful franchises.; numerous other businesses have been founded since then too numerous to mention here.-1
