The Marine Corps has been deploying Marines in Paducah, Kentucky, since the early 1800s. The history of the Marines in Paducah can be traced back to 1807 when Lafayette was appointed Commandant of Marine Barracks at Louisville. In 1809, General James Wilkinson landed his brigade of marines on the coast of what is now Kentucky and occupied Paducah. From this location, he directed operations against Native American insurgents and helped to build up the beginnings of a military presence in what is now Kentucky. In 1861, when Texas seceded from the United States and became a Confederate state, marines were called into service to help protect Fort Sumter. When Confederate forces sacked the fort they also looted and burned much of downtown Paducah. The destruction done by Confederate forces and the lack of response by local authorities left many people homeless and impoverished. This event led to increased demand for marine services throughout Kentucky and surrounding states. By 1865, there were more than 1,000 marines stationed in Kentucky with responsibility for guarding government buildings, conducting law enforcement activities, serving as transports for troops massing for war purposes, providing medical care during battles or disasters, etc. During World War II there was significant growth within the Marine Corps because so many countries were interested in using its personnel as mercenaries or soldiers in their wars abroad. Many paducahs served as barracks for enlisted men awaiting transport overseas or underwent training at Camp Pendleton before being sent off to fight on Long Island (in New York), Okinawa (in Japan), Saigon (South Vietnam) or Manus Island (Australia). More recently units have deployed to Operation Neptune’s Spear which saw Iraqi fighters cross into Kuwait; USS Coral Sea which fought off Somali pirates; Operation Enduring Freedom which resulted in Abu Ghraib prison being liberated; and currently Operation Just Cause which sees US Marines launching an assault on rebel-held Panama

Paducah, Kentucky (population: over 200,000) is a town in Johnson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 161 at the 2010 census. Paducah is the only municipality in Johnson County and the third largest city in Kentucky after Lexington and Frankfort. It is one of two U.S. metropolitan areas with a population over 400,000; the other is Nashville, Tennessee. The first people to arrive in what is now Paducah were Shawnee Indians who hunted game near present-day Paducah Lake. A post office called Paducah was established in 1824, and by 1830 it had grown to include a small community of about fifty people. In 1834 Major James Hennepin sent 300 soldiers to build Fort Harrison on the east bank of the Ohio River opposite modern day Paducah City but they were recalled before reaching their destination because of Indian hostilities. Construction on Fort Harrison began soon afterwards but stopped due to financial problems and again failed when Native American raids occurred during this time period. In 1840 an agreement was reached between the United States government and the Shawnee nation that allowed for development of what would become Paducah into a trading post with access to both sides of the river. In 1861 Confederate General Jubal Early destroyed part of Fort Harrison while invading Maryland; as a result much damage was done to nearby Union fortifications including initial construction of Union General Robert Eichel's later known as "Eagle's Nest" fortification which still stands today within walking distance of downtown Paducah proper despite having been extensively burned down by Early's forces less than two years earlier during his raid against Baltimore rather than being rebuilt following his destruction). The first thing that Paducah did when it gained its independence from Great Britain was to repeal the Stamp Act of 1765. After this, the town grew rapidly and became a manufacturing center for goods exported to the developing United States. In 1801, Paducah became a county seat and remained so until 1907. Today, Paducah is a small but important community located in southeastern Kentucky on the Cumberland River. It is home to many major industries such as textiles and furniture production, aluminum production, printing presses and other technology companies, as well as several thousand residents who work in these businesses. The history of Paducah goes back more than two centuries and has been tightly associated with the tobacco industry. WhenCaptain James Wilkinson discovered land on which he would build his future town, he knew that tobacco must be its centerpiece if it were to prosper. He negotiated with several Indian tribes in order to purchase some of the best land in Kentucky for tobacco farming. By 1781 however, Captain Wilkinson's patience had bit him and he decided to name his new settlement after himself - "Paduca" (meaning "place of landing"). This naming choice stuck because it sounded like an English word - something that British colonists found helpful when trying to understand Native American languages they encountering on their journey into America. In fact, one of Captain James Wilkinson's first tasks upon arriving at Paduca was to translate an ancient map locating all of eastern Kentucky into English language terms so that settlers could better explore what they were discovering! Unfortunately though for Mr Wilkinson- his maps often got lost among all the moving parts of his colony - including people! However even though some explorers made good progress but then abandoned their efforts due to various factors (including Indian hostilities), others managed make extended trips throughout much of eastern Kentucky before finally settling down near present day Paduca during Governor William Clark's administration (1802-1807). These early pioneers not only opened up vast tracts of virgin lands but also helped established vital trade relationships between local natives and whites across the riverbottoms – ultimately helping lay foundation for what would become known as today's Kentucky culture and economy! despite numerous setbacks over time; Captain James Wilkinson's vision forPaduca would come true: A thriving community situated along strategic waterways rich in natural resources; Tobacco being key ingredient; Thoroughly assimilated by Native Americans who coexisted peacefully until peaceful removal began under General Andrew Johnson
